Miss Chile sings for the death metal band Decessus. She performed with them as part of the talent portion of the Competition.

Colin Farrell is Lord Doyle, a gambler in Macoa languishing in a pile of debt. He has days to pay off the debts or be sent to the police. Things don't look good for him settling his debt as he plays against a woman known as Grandma who sees through him and quickly cleans him out of his last bankroll. Lord Doyle meets a loan shark named Dao Ming who Lord Doyle thinks can help him.
Lord Doyle's descent plays against the festival of Hungry Ghosts currently happening in Macao. Lots of references are made to the ghosts who eat all they can but are never fulfilled.
The film is a slow paced downer following Lord Doyle and his interactions with Dao Ming. They spend a lot of time showing how bad Lord Doyle's life has become. Another twist is Tilda Swinton showing up, also there to collect on different debts.
The whole film is a bit of a slog. Lots of allegories and metaphors I probably didn't catch. You know things are bad when the film starts off with a suicide warning.
No sword fights.

She was one of two women that were members of the Dead. But she was there with her first husband Keith on keys back in the 70s before my time. Her contributions to the Dead sound varied from on point to off key. She did sweeten harmonies, particularly with Bobby, but sometimes when she was freestyle singing, it threw the jam into blandness.
I saw her several times in the scene but only once singing after Jerry died. That was a show at the Mo, Dark Star Orchestra, probably my least fav Dead cover band. They try to reproduce shows note-for-note. Donna wasn’t bad that night. I’ll be watching the deadhead reaction on socials…

This has been in my queue since it came out. Criterion is losing a lot of its Johnnie To flicks this month so I finally got to it (it's available on Netflix too so it was a silly motivation).
Johnnie To can be quirky (Heroic Trio) and violent (Drug War) and this flick is just so - well, more quirky than violent unless the ample vomiting is violent. Lots of barfing scenes. Andy Lau plays Johnston, a blind cop that relives crimes to solve them. He's partnered with Ho, a hawtty cop who is enamored with his deductive skills. She tasks him with finding a childhood friend that she rebuffed because her mom & grandma were murderers. The crime leads to a serial killer and lots of silliness. The episodes where they reenact crimes are played for slapstick, somewhat in dreamlike flashbacks. Johnston eats a lot of good food. His deductions are preposterous and absurd. I predicted the end when the camera lingered on a random character - such an obvs tell. It got a lot of noms in HK award festivals, probably due to the rep of To & Lau, but none were deserved. A disappointment.
Not D00M worthy at all.

Kathryn Bigelow sets out to make you scared for your life and unfortunately succeeds admirably.
It's kind of Roshomon-esque in that there is basically three sections to the film all covering the same time frame but told from different sectors of the government. It's not Roshomon-esque in that all the stories are the same. Basically, there has been a missile launch and now it is up to the US to try and stop it. No problem. Yeah, no. It's tense moment after tense moment. Not a second of release as the missile gets closer and closer. At points it did feel like Dr. Strangelove with absolutely none of the humor. The film does point out the madness of the mutually assured destruction scenario we currently live under.
The Queen hated it because it is super dark. The night afterwards I was warned not to choose anything near that depressing.
It's really well made. The film churns you up and spits you out with lots to think about.

This is kinda like Bullet Train meets Snakes on a Plane without any snakes. Harnett is a washed up agent who gets a shot at redemption if he can capture the ‘ghost’ & his handler (Katee Sackoff) puts him on a plane with the asset and a bunch of assassins. My castmate Marko Zaror has 3rd billing and Juju Chan Szeto, who I’ve crossed paths with many times but we never really had a conversation plays a Wudang nun. It’s billed as coming from the same producers as John Wick and while it emulates the fight vibe or ultravi, it’s a different stunt team. That being said, it’s fairly entertaining action because it’s comedy. The fights are super violent and ratchet up the sanguinosity progressively until it goes full chainsaw. The high point was discovering Charithra Chandran who has a role in S2 of the live action One Piece. She’s got a fine screen presence and I look forward to more from her (she was in Brigerton but I couldn’t hang with that show at all). There’s also a fun drug trip fight. Ultimately it’s a lot of dumb drunken violence on a plane so if you’re into that sort of thing, this is amusing.
Mildly D00M recommended -

I’m in
1st 2 eps seen. The first shots of Morena aren’t flattering, kinda odd, as if maybe her makeup was wrong or she had some poor work done. But later her mascara is perfect, despite all her tribulations. The 1st ep introduces her complicated family and work place - the dynamics that will propel the show - some amusing characters although a bit overdone. The 2nd ep settles into what may be the season’s overarching plot. It’s set in some Nor Cal community called Edgewater, and the growers play a major part. She plays Mickey, who is up for sheriff. Her daughter is in recovery. Her pop is a past grower who’s done time and is going legit. Her ex is a lawyer.
It’s ok so far - a police procedural that did enough research to drop the slang ‘trimigrants.’ I’ll keep watching because Morena - it’s a good role for her.

I'm in dialog with this company. We've been batting around potential co-branding and such. They just sent me 2 cases of nuts, regular & double heat, a hat, and some promo posters.
A bag of these nuts, some whiskey and a Kung Fu movie and I'm a happy clam.
