When you’re right, you’re right. The music is outstanding. E19 Wild horses - the backstory on the swordfish. Didn’t think that even needed a backstory but it was good. Luved how simply the ending played out. E20: an assassin that’s a gothamesque blend of the Joker and the Penguin. A duel in Space Land - a wonderfully surreal closed amusement park. I luv abandoned amusement park settings. The assassin’s backstory is eloquently told. Cool Ep. If the live action remakes any of the specific eps, I’m hoping it’s this one and the Mushroom Ep. E21: Boogie woogie feng shui. I’m not sure this Ep makes sense if you don’t understand the basic principles of Feng shui. There’s a lot of shout outs to it. Subtract that and this Ep was mediocre at best. If getting what Feng shui references that I did, it was as captivating as some of the other eps.

Rewatching the series, then that trailer, I see some identical visuals. Fingers crossed.

Ep 6 Heavy Metal. Kind of a down episode for me after the vicious episode.

22: Cowboy Funk. Andy - Spike’s cowboy rival. Funny - especially the next Ep preview following the credits.
E23 - scratch reminded me of a David Cronenberg film. E24: Bummer Ep. The crew splits up. Made me really sad. 2 more eps - the 2-part finale.

I'm up to episode 9? Just did Venus which was fine. Glad to see them finally get paid. Then I saw the truckers in space and the exploding asteroid mine. Or Vice Versa. Did I see three? I saw the Earth episode where they brought in Ed. I liked the idea of space laser carving the Nazca lines.

I think I saw three episodes last night. There was the one on Ganymede that centered on Jack. Toys in the Attic with the bad refrigerator and the purple thing. The tag for the next episode that came at the end of Toys was particularly good. Glad that they made another bounty.

Finale part 1 - another Bruce Lee ref - Big Boss billboard in the background. Vicious returns and Julia revealed. Nice cliffhanger for the finale part 2.
Finale - conclusive despite a few loose ends. I hope the live action stays true to this. There was an anime movie too, yes? I wonder where I could see that? You’re gonna carry that weight. Can I find this movie before next Friday? Not sure if I’ll have the bandwidth. Rewatched the live action trailers. Looks like a major reworking of Faye and I suppose that’s understandable. Also seen are Vicious, Julia, Teddy Bommer, but where is Ed? I also read an interview where Gwen will be in this.

The movie was basically a long, stand-alone ep. It was good.
The finale was very good. The last song is on one of my most listened to playlists.

I've got to get on it. I watched the Jupiter part one episode last night. More Spike back story!

It occurs to me that I could've cosplayed Spike in my younger years. We had similar hair and I used to be lanky like that. I still wear my sleeves rolled up in the same way. Before I got my chin scar that I hide with my goatee, I coulda pulled that off, methinks.

aw damn
This is totally the article I was going to pitch to Den but I've been so swamped lately I didn't get around to it. https://www.cbr.com/cowboy-bebop-spike-s...spiration/ I think I could've done a better job than Kristen, but she covered most of my main talking points. I've thought about submitting to CBR - I know a few of their reporters - but I've had my plate full enough with my regular work and Den. Maybe someday, just to broaden my range.

Live action E1: Cowboy Gospel
This is a redux of the anime ep 1 with Asimov and the Blood Eye. It's reworked to add Faye in right away...but this is not my Faye. As I feared, the actress doesn't capture Faye at all - it's a total revamp of her character and that's extremely disappointing. Despite anime Faye's exploitive sexiness, she had a lot of sass and heart, which isn't carrying over to Daniella's portrayal so far. Cho is okay as Spike. Mustafa is okay as Jet. But they're both just okay. Not impressed by any of the other actors yet. It all feels very stilted. The sets and spaceships are okay, and there's plenty of references to the original. They are leaning heavy into Julia already, and have introduced Vicious, who is painfully caricature here. They've added a twist at the end, something that fans of the show are supposed to go 'oooooh' at, but it fell flat on me. The ultravi is okay - gratuitous blood splats and a lot more Cho Kung Fu - it's merciless but it fails to capture the artsiness of the original while struggling hard in the attempt. The music in underplayed. There needs to be more. The best part is the credit music, but there's no 'coming next ep' segment, which is also very disappointing. But there's something empty about it. It's not working. I'm leaning towards calling this a fail. I'm skeptical that'll turn around but I'll watch until Ein appears and then judge.

I thought they nailed the look/feel of the universe. Faye’s character in the anime was problematic to translate into 2021 Western culture. I want more music, but I dig the OST cameos.
I’ll go along for a while.
