Truth. The headstones got reused in landfill in the Marina and other places. I have an old, pre1906 map that shows the cemeteries (and the old Spanish Rancho borders). Most of the bodies went to Colma, but some bodies remain. The Lincoln Golf Course in the Presidio apparently is still chock-a-block with corpses.
In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.
