Surf...He's a pretty big fish in that small pond. Fascinating Creatures of the Deep. When I was in Bashi-Bazouks with Mike Roman, we opened for them at the Crepe Place. That was one of our only 3 live gigs. Back then, they were opening for Dick Dale and the like...Mic Jennings used to play bass in FCoTD. I tried out as a 2nd guitarist once, probably about 5-7 years ago. They never called me back.
FCoTD's original drummer, Stretch, left (health issues?) and now Lex is playing drums for them. They're alright. Adrian knows the genre inside-out and has the sound down, but they do mostly originals, and sometimes I just want a familiar hook to latch onto. Lately, they come out, introduce themselves, and then play their entire set w/o interruption, then talk and the end of the set. It's a nice idea, but in practice, it's a bit boring. It would be nice if Adrian broke in every couple of songs and said something about what they just played or what they are about to play...Dead Kampers did a lot of classic surf songs, or covers in the surf-style which kept my interest. The electric upright bass over the shoulder thing is a gimmick, but it totally worked. All bass players in the venue were paying attention and tittering about it...They also have a sax player and that was great...had a Morphine vibe which I really liked.

When I was trying out, I thought this FCoTD was really cool:
