Them (2006) by David Moreau and Xavier Pallud
#1
This is Them, not Them! so don't be expecting any giant praying mantises.

This falls into the Home Invasion category.  It's very well done, but disappointing, because the assailants are never seen (with rare exceptions), and the victimized couple spend all their time in panicked flight.  In other words, there's very little time for characterization to get you invested in things.  [10 Rillington Place was brilliant in this regard].  One positive is that there isn't a lot of jump scares, just noises and footsteps and TVs suddenly being on and the lights turning on and off -- good suspenseful stuff, and like I said, this is well done.  The problem is that it's been done so many times by now.

A short movie, but even so it felt long due to familarity.

The title has a special meaning, but to talk of it would be a spoiler.

Based on real events.  In which case...  Bummer.
