Them (2006) by David Moreau and Xavier Pallud - cranefly - 10-07-2021 This is Them, not Them! so don't be expecting any giant praying mantises. This falls into the Home Invasion category. It's very well done, but disappointing, because the assailants are never seen (with rare exceptions), and the victimized couple spend all their time in panicked flight. In other words, there's very little time for characterization to get you invested in things. [10 Rillington Place was brilliant in this regard]. One positive is that there isn't a lot of jump scares, just noises and footsteps and TVs suddenly being on and the lights turning on and off -- good suspenseful stuff, and like I said, this is well done. The problem is that it's been done so many times by now. A short movie, but even so it felt long due to familarity. The title has a special meaning, but to talk of it would be a spoiler. Based on real events. In which case... Bummer. FWIW, "Them!" is/are giant ants. --tg RE: Them (2006) by David Moreau and Xavier Pallud - Drunk Monk - 10-07-2021 (10-07-2021, 03:34 PM)thatguy Wrote:(10-07-2021, 02:48 PM)cranefly Wrote: This is Them, not Them! so don't be expecting any giant praying mantises. Giant praying mantises are called Kamacuras. ![]() Not to be mistaken for Kamasutra... In my mind's eye I can see the mantid squadron approaching near the end of the film, humming like giant fans. Guess what killed them? What was that movie? Dang it. Ah, got it. The Deadly Mantis. Funny. I always thought that was the one about giant ants. [Yes, I'm being purposely oblivious at this point.] By the way, they killed the mantises with chemical bombs in a tunnel. And maybe there was just one of them.
