Let me get this straight.
You're operating a brand new sawzall.
You turn it on while gripping the blade.

I bought a sawzall last year and used it to build my skylight shaft.
The very phrase "pulled the trigger while gripping the blade" evokes a very pronounced spincter event.

You don't have to grip the blade to have close calls with a sawzall. It's a destructive tool of intimidating might.
