I've got debts no honest man can pay. - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 06-12-2006

At what point is it okay to be almost a million dollars in debt?

- El Dingo - 06-12-2006

I sorta thought it was unAmerican not to be ass-deep in debt.

Don't count the mortgage - King Bob - 06-12-2006

That will just hurt your head. Now if you're talking a mil without that, then it's probably Chapter 11 time.

I'm on the capitalist quest. - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 06-12-2006

I have two mortgages (or will shortly) so I think it's okay to count the two. But yikes. My fiscal conservatism has gone out the window.

What El Dingo said. You wouldn't want to be un-American would you? You could get deported!.

Terrorist Watch List? - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 06-13-2006

I'm doing my part to defend the homefront. It just seems there are too many zeros in the debt column.

We're not supposed to talk about money - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 07-02-2006

But what if the bank misplaces ten grand?

In the midst of my wealth quest, ( I know, I'm the anti-ED) I had to send a check for 10k to the bank. It's too bad I wrote the check on the wrong account and it bounced from here to Huntington Beach. I sent the Escrow company another check and transferred funds and made sure everything was okay.
This week the nice Escrow people called and said I had bounced the second check and if I didn't send the full funding amount for the house, I wouldn't get the new house. I did.

and yet as I lay there at work, I wondered where the money for the 10k was. It wasn't in my account. It had cleared a week a go. Yet my escrow people hadn't gotten.

It turns out, they had. They had cashed the first check when I transferred the funds. On the day they siad they couldn't cash my first check, they actuall could. They did. The Escrow people just didn't know about it. The ubiquitous "Some Girl in the Office" had made a mistake about verifying the deposit. Oopsy. Our bad. So, when I sent them the second check, it bounced because the first check had taken it. Those whacky Escrow people. I'm thinking of sending Urine Bombs.

Reminds me... - cranefly - 07-02-2006

Reminds me a bit of the quest for health insurance for Lady Cranefly and me..

First Blue Cross turned us down for reasons I won't go into. Only then I received notification that I was accepted (but not the Lady) and that they would be drawing money out of my account on a certain date. But this date was a week in the past, and yep, they'd yanked the money out well before even telling me they would cover me.

Then a week later I got notification that my application had been rejected.

But of course I'd been accepted.
Eventually, after providing more info, Lady Cranefly also got accepted, except the letter was very confusing about this.

Anyway, the one thing they were very consistent about was draining money from my account from the start of May onward -- even before notifying me of acceptance.

Then in mid-June we finally got our official cards -- which give a start date of July 1. So Lady Cranefly called them up, explained the whole mess, and the lady apologized and said new cards would be issued with the correct start date of early May.

Then a few days ago I received a nasty letter demanding immediate payment of a large sum of money, or our policy would be canceled. It turns out that the lady not only corrected our cards, but back-billed us to early May -- even though Lady Cranefly wasn't covered back then and I'd already been getting my account tapped monthly.

So Lady Cranefly called them again, explained things, and the guy said gotcha, just ignore that bill.

Right. And we put a man on the moon.

I'm so angry I could fake a medical emergency.

Except with a 2500 deductible, it would hurt us a lot more than them.

The Blood Baptism. - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 10-23-2006

It's just not official until you shed blood on the house. That really makes the house yours. At least that's how Stephen King wrote it. I just hope the laundry machine doesn't try to attack me. And I don't even have the Baloney Pony to blame. I'm just at war with my self.

First rule: Never wear gloves while using power tools. Just don't do it.

So, I'm wearing my gloves while operating the sawzall. It's a reciprocating saw with an eight inch blade. Brand new. Fresh out of the package sort of blade. I only realized after I pulled the trigger that I was actually holding the blade rather than the guard. I tell you there is nothing funnnier than watching Greg hop around screaming. If only there was video of the incident.

Fortunately, I was wearing gloves or their wouldn't be a top to my ring finger. But If I hadn't been wearing the gloves, I probably could have felt I was holding the blade when I pulled the trigger.

Was it blood? - King Bob - 11-02-2006

I thought it wasn't really yours until you put a hole in the wall.

sawzall - cranefly - 11-02-2006

Let me get this straight.
You're operating a brand new sawzall.
You turn it on while gripping the blade.
Is this sane?

Okay, we've been through the routine before.
I won't belabor the point.

I bought a sawzall last year and used it to build my skylight shaft.
The very phrase "pulled the trigger while gripping the blade" evokes a very pronounced spincter event.

You don't have to grip the blade to have close calls with a sawzall. It's a destructive tool of intimidating might.

I am surprised, relieved and very happy that you can still count to ten.

Funny - he's never been able to count to 10 before...

I can, too. - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 11-03-2006

I always carry the portable "Counting for Dummies" in my pocket in case the need arises.

More Blood - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 04-06-2007

Of the fiduciary kind. I am no longer a two mortgage man. Nor do I have all the money I once had. Nor the profits I thought to reap. Damn. New house hunt begins on Monday.
