My 12 Kung Fu Kicks (1986)
#1
More Bruce Leung research (see http://www.brotherhoodofdoom.com/doomFor...p?tid=5073)

Bruce Leung should've been named Jackie Leung.  Here is a KF comedy, totally in the wake of Jackie, the student meets a crazy master (in this case 3 who were crippled by the villain and 1 just random crazy one), endures unusual training, and then takes revenge. It's full of comic high jinks, easily identified by the goofy clown music, and there's plenty of groin grabs done for laughs, plus stooge-fu nose tweaks, booger-shooting attacks, and a sewage pot dump.  The story surrounds poor fighter who rescues a gal sold to a whorehouse.  It's a real showcase for Leung tho - he has amazing kicking skills - a true superkicker.  This also stars the mighty Kwai Shan, who looks huge next to Bruce (I think Bruce is short) and Venoms crew Ku Feng.

A footnote for the cfs - the title translation is awkward.  The actual title would be (in Cantonese) Sup Yee Tan Toy (12 Tantui).  This film centers around the 12-line version of the 2nd form in our BSL curriculum.  That's not what Bruce does in the movie - he jazzes it up with all sorts of crazy kicks, but there's a training manual that shows line one, which is universal across tantui versions, and there's a moment when he first learns it where he does a tiny bit of the form.  Kinda cool if you're into that sort of thing.

FYI - these are notes I'm storing here for my future article on Leong.  As you know, I do that a lot for so many reasons.  Thanks DOOM.
