The Dragon Lives Again (1977)
#1
I'm scheduled to meet the Beast from Kung Fu Hustle this week.  I'm excited about that.  Bruce Leung was one of the leading Bruce Lee clones during the Bruceploitation era, which is a shame really because he is quite talented, a super kicker with a foundation in Chinese Opera like Jackie, Sammo, and all of those Yuen clansmen.  I never really gave him much of a thought until KFH, and then in The Gallants, he totally won me over.  Reviewed that here in 2011 (http://www.brotherhoodofdoom.com/doomFor...p?tid=2179)

So TDLA is considered one of the peak Bruceploitation flicks.  Leung plays Bruce, who is in hell, where his nunchuks get mistaken for a boner.  srsly.  There he encounters the some classic figures from Chinese myth, King of Hell, Zhong Kui, Hua Tuo, some martial arts characters like Zatoichi, the One-armed Swordsman, Kwai Chang Caine, and the oddest collection of others, Dracula, the Exorcist, James Bond, Emmanuel, Clint Eastwood, Popeye (played by the mighty Eric Tseng no less).  It's a horribly bad film as you might imagine, so bad it's good.

I might be called upon to present Bruce with some sort of recognition award this Saturday at a tournament.  I'm invited to a VIP banquet right after, but I've got tickets to the Cabrillo Music Festival.  He comes by the office next week, and I'm also invited to his 73(?) birthday party banquet in SF that following Friday, but I'm working OSL.  Alas.  We'll see how this all goes. I think I'll get plenty of time with him this Saturday and next week. I don't think he speaks English and my Cantonese is worse than my Mandarin, but there will be selfies.  I mean, he's the muthafeckin Beast, right?  Stay tuned to my social media.  I do this just to amuse DOOM, doncha know?
