What a visionary film. Casshern is a live CGI anime out of Japan that's visually stunning. It's one of the most exciting things I've seen in a while. The closest thing I could pin this to would be Legend of Zu, but it's far superior to that in my mind. There's more of a plot than in Zu - things actually come together in the end to a somewhat sensible resolution where as Zu leaves you hanging. There are still some huge plot gaps, but who cares? The look and feel of the film, the pacing, the twists, are so original that it doesn't matter. I'd probably have to see it a dozen times before it all made sense. Plus Casshern has this oppressive Orwellian sensibility, reminscent of Gilliam's Brazil or the animation in Pink Floyd's The Wall.
If you all haven't seen it, I WILL BRING IT TO OUR NEXT GATHERING. It is definitely DOOM worthy. Definitely.
