Casshern (2004) - Drunk Monk - 07-12-2006 WOW What a visionary film. Casshern is a live CGI anime out of Japan that's visually stunning. It's one of the most exciting things I've seen in a while. The closest thing I could pin this to would be Legend of Zu, but it's far superior to that in my mind. There's more of a plot than in Zu - things actually come together in the end to a somewhat sensible resolution where as Zu leaves you hanging. There are still some huge plot gaps, but who cares? The look and feel of the film, the pacing, the twists, are so original that it doesn't matter. I'd probably have to see it a dozen times before it all made sense. Plus Casshern has this oppressive Orwellian sensibility, reminscent of Gilliam's Brazil or the animation in Pink Floyd's The Wall. If you all haven't seen it, I WILL BRING IT TO OUR NEXT GATHERING. It is definitely DOOM worthy. Definitely. Here's a tease: http://www.casshern.com - El Dingo - 07-12-2006 I watched about a half-hour of a downloaded copy and decided I wanted to get the DVD and watch it in full 5.1 glory. It was recommended to me as "the Japanese 'Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow' " referring to the near-total use of CGI for sets and locations. I was thinking about it for DOOM also, but I think I have something better... You're such a tease, ED... - Drunk Monk - 07-13-2006 ..."something better"? Oh give us a hint. Whacha got? I think the Sky Captain comparison is unfair. I mean really, I'd enjoy the addition of Angelina in the mix, but it reminds me of when they were calling Steven Chow (Kung Fu Hustle) the Jim Carrey of Hong Kong. Does that make Chuck Norris the Jet Li of America? Come on now... That being said, I didn't see Sky Captain. I wanted to, not just because of Angelina, but mostly to see Greg's set maker credit.... Casshern is pretty over the top imagery-wise. It borrows so much from anime, but it looks totally different because it's live action and CGI. Plus the story was interesting, once you get past those weird plot gaps. It's pretty hallusinatory, so like Brazil, I can totally accept the logic leaps because the film already makes you park your brain outside, from the get go. I can't imagine Sky Captain was as visionary. I suffer - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 07-13-2006 Someday, I'll be out of a job. Which will give me plenty of time to post and not to mention, tinker. Support your Hollywood overblown set construction today. Although, Huge CGI movies demand huge sets for some reason. - Dr. Ivor Yeti - 07-14-2006 Angelina with an eye-patch is worth the rental fee. Good looking film, Skycaptain, but not very memorable. Casshern looks pretty darn good...! but was there swordfights? - Drunk Monk - 07-17-2006 Was Angelina better than Daryl with the eyepatch? Do we need a hotties with eyepatches thread? Debates, maybe - Greg_phpbb3_import1 - 07-17-2006 Which woman would look best with an eyepatch? And a discipline stick. AAAaaaahahhaha. And now I get to press submit. speaking of Angelina - Drunk Monk - 05-25-2007 Quote:Armed police raid home after mistaking Lara Croft dummy for gunmanHere's the link [http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=455037&in_page_id=1770
