My latest kick is obscure Shaw Brothers flicks with dumb titles. This is supposedly a chapter from Romance of the Three Kingdoms as Cao Cao is referenced, but I don't remember it (RotTK is long and convoluted and although I've engaged it several times, I could easily have missed this episode). A Taoist shaman is unjustly killed - he reincarnate as an impish acrobat that's indicated by always being shown in a red spotlight (80s special effects) and possesses a lot of people. He possess a gal to seduce a guy. He swaps back and forth possessing two opponents in a duel. The effects are like the level of Bewitched - wires and film cuts. But it's directed by Chang Cheh, which means gaudy costumes (yello kilts!), wacky weapons (rope dart triangular frisbee!), and great Kung Fu. FLAMING sword fights! Some really amazing choreography - absurd and acrobatic. Not for everyone for it's odd plot and cheesiness, but fun for any Shaw fan. My fav was the henchman who gets his whole arm lopped off yet fights on for several more scenes. I should just dedicate myself to watching all the Chang Cheh films. His work is so fun - great wuxia ultravi.
