Tribeca just sent me a note saying I could get a complimentary ticket to a bunch of events. If I was in New York, there are a bunch I would attend. Sadly, I am not in New York.

Festivals are starting to watch the film again after a month long drought. I've got a 2 minute viewing from Brooklyn and a 1:30 viewing from Spokane. I can feel the invitations being written as we speak.

Thank you for submitting your work to the 15th Aegean Film Festival.
From more than 800 films competing for this edition, a total of 54 are finally included in the official programmes. Your film has been carefully reviewed by our pre-selection team consisting of a diverse group of people from more than 15 different countries and the AegeanFF programming team.
An overwhelming number of exceptional entries made our selection process a tough call and unfortunately we could not include Iron Crotch in one of the programmes of the upcoming edition.
As a Thank You gesture to all filmmakers who trusted us with their work, we would like to offer a 40% discount to the Guest Pass in order to help those who wish to attend. A banner week for rejections. Both Marina Del Rey and Boston.Doc have declined my entreaties. Marina Del Rey sent out an automated rejection via Film Freeway. Boston.doc sent out this form letter.

The Melbourne International Film Festival has opted not to wait until June 30 to reject my Iron Crotch and got it out of the way today.

Thank you for submitting Iron Crotch (MIFF26-2425) to the 2026 Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF). After careful consideration, we are unable to offer the film a place in this year’s program.

Each year, MIFF receives a high volume of submissions, and the number of thoughtful, accomplished and distinctive works submitted far exceeds the space available in the festival program. We recognise the time, care and commitment involved in making and submitting a film, and we sincerely appreciate the opportunity to have considered your work.

While we understand that feedback can be valuable, due to the volume of submissions received, MIFF is unable to provide individual feedback on selection outcomes.

Well, this is a nice change of pace from the usual slew of rejections. Granted, I'm still not in but I'm closer to being in. Sort of. DUMBO is an artsy area of Brooklyn. This festival has been going on for 8 years and I've entered every film I've made into their festival.

This is one of two announcements I expected for today.

We are glad to inform you that your film is a pre-selection (you can read "semi-finalist" on FilmFreeway) and it is now competing with the other preselections to be an official selection at the 8th DFF (2026).
We received over 352 entries from 48 Countries and the average quality of the works keeps an outstanding standard, also thanks to your contribution.
Please read carefully:
1) Your film has been preselected, which means that your film will compete with the other pre-selections until July 12 (when the official selection is chosen).
2) No screenings are planned during this process: only the selected films will be screened at DUMBO from November 16 to 22.
3) If officially selected, your title will be listed along with the other titles on July 12, under the 2026 OFFICIAL SELECTION section of our website.
4) According to the festival's policy, only the official selections will receive the official laurel.
We hope everything is clear and thank you once again for sharing with us your extraordinary work, the result of commitment, passion and creativity.

Dumbo has opted not to screen Iron Crotch as part of their festival. I went to their website to see the list of winners to see who actually was chosen and Iron Crotch was not on the list. You would think they could drop a line to tell you weren't in.

And since I was a semi-finalist, who did I have to defeat to advance? Shouldn't there be a bracket of some sorts?

I'm expecting two announcements this week. This announcement from Docuwest wasn't one of them. Docuwest wasn't supposed to announce until September. If we go to the analytics, between Denver and Durango, 3 minutes of the film was screened. They are also still accepting entries until mid August.

Unfortunately, your movie was not selected into the 2026 DocuWest Documentary Film Festival. This year, after previewing more than 300 submissions. Once again, the films we've received were amazing and the programming choices we've made as to the lineup have been difficult. 
Please know, this in no ways reflects on your work as a filmmaker. We believe each film finds its respective film festival home, and are aware that your submission to DocuWest (and other fests) are not made lightly. We respect this important step in your filmmaking journey. Please keep us in mind once you've completed your next project.
