The oddness. While I was in Toga, I received an email from the son of one of the leaders of the Black Scorpions. I talked to him today on the phone. And just now, I received an email from the granddaughter of another pilot in the group. Her grandfather also wrote a journal which she is going to send me a copy of. Strange times.

I got my royalty statement on Saturday. In the second half of 2024, 176 copies of the book were sold as well as 61 ebooks. At this rate, I might get a royalty statement from the next period.

I received my statement of book sales from the publisher yesterday. Black Scorpions sold 652 physical copies and 92 digital copies in the first half of this year. Yes, I was shocked.

My cousins found in my Uncle's office pretty much every letter my grandfather sent to my grandmother during his time overseas. My eldest cousin's first inclination was to put them in the trash. Fortunately, cooler heads prevailed and they were sent to me. Because of regulations, he can't say a lot. Mostly the letters concern whether my grandmother received his army allotment and could she please send him some cigarettes. There are a few hints of activity but nothing specific. I'm currently typing them all up for readability.
I'm currently going through his letters from Dec 1942. What's amusing to me most is that my grandfather is really concerned that will people will not understand that why hasn't sent them Christmas cards and will be mad at him. His unit was currently chasing the Germans and Italians through Libya. They were moving every couple of days to a new air strip while facing attacks on the camps. My grandfather was worried about getting his Christmas cards sent out.

Well, then. Today I received my royalty statement from my Publisher. I have earned out my advance and I am now in Royalty Payment territory. Publisher Casemate sent me a very lovely check that might just cover the cost of a Happy Meal. But, still. A Royalty check is a Royalty check.

You know, I work in the book publishing industry. The way to make money on books if you're published by an indie publisher is simple. Go on book tour.

A few hundred. But I didn't travel that far. Cali only. But I have a more focused readership. Which can be said about most of our authors. I imagine you might target vets halls and such. Indie bookstores are just starting to come back according to industry reports. Those might be workable too.
Do you know what distribution network your book publisher uses?

The museum at Ames was interested, but I don't know if that's a paying gig...

Paying if you do an in-person and they can buy the book directly from the author.
