DM - today I was listening to one of the Mad Professor jungle-ish albums and remembered that time you and I and (I think) Steve Yee and Mark (forgot his last name) went to that club upstairs from Marsugi's and saw Mad Professor. And both of them were so mad about the jungle stuff he played. I enjoyed it, not sure about you.

Wow, I had forgotten about that. That would've been Steve Yi & Marc Velez - coincidentally Steve just moved back in with Marc. Marc owns a house in Roseville and just separated with his wife. So it's like 2.5 men because Marc's son lives there too. I'm not that into jungle, truth be told, but I can't remember my reaction to MP doing it. Probably wasn't into it.

Last night was the 1 year anniversary of Outernational. With all the madness that 2025 had been, this gathering has been keeping me together all year. Lots of friends and deep in the Rasta Cruz community.

My accomplice Ben (still need a better nickname for him than Big Ben) drove. We rolled up early and parked in back behind the Woodhouse, just before they closed it off with cones. Total Jedi move. Ben and I haven't done much together in the last month so our powers were full up.

Ben donned a clown suit - a green onesie with reindeer on it. I told him I'd buy if he did that. We had 2 rounds - Ben went with the sour. I had a Dark & Ominous stout, which as soon as I put it to my lips, I remembered I had it last time and didn't care for it much. Kinda syrupy. Then I had a golden stout which looked like an amber but drank like a stout. I love Woodhouse but they do crappy darks. It's more about IPAs there and I'm not into IPAs.

We touched base with a dispensary that was tabling and he kicked us down some prerolls. Another Jedi move.

Ben had mixed some whisky cocktails - his take on a blueberry smash - so we took a break, went back to our choice parking spot for a drinkee & a puff. Right then, the Christmas train went by. We were alone in the lot so we stood on some flats and cheered them on both coming and going. Perfect timing. More Jedi moves.

At this point, DM was in full irie mode. Checked in with the DJs - gave Robert (Rankin) a nod and had a long convo with Osha (Selecta 7) about his dad, who was a Tai Chi pioneer here in Santa Cruz. I didn't know him but it was good to finally connect with him.

Saw Brian, the dad of one of Tara's elementary classmates, who is functionally homeless and definitely on the spectrum. We just said 'hi' - DM didn't want to harsh his buzz.

Saw Gigi, a student at the Martial Academy where I train. She was there last time - John spotted her - and we chatted a bit afterwards. We danced together for a bit - she's a flow dancer and would do well to discover the Dead scene. I'll have to ask her if she's experienced. She was with her boyfriend, so I didn't want to intrude too much. We didn't speak much, just danced together. That was just as well because DM was deep in the zone and having difficulty forming sentences. DM did tell her that she discovered his secret chamber, but in retrospect he has no idea if she knows about the 36 chambers at all.

Dm ended up dancing next to the same gal as last time, a lovely Latina in a sun dress. Dm should ask her name next time. She's super fun and upbeat, young like a skankin pace car.

Discovered that Ben has not seen Countryman, so I am officially revoking his reggae card until he resolves that.

Five miles of skankin.

First Outernational of 2026

Irie fun. Luv the bounce. My KF brother & his wife came with some friends. Had several Mexican Chocolate Stouts. They were ok - drinkable, served in those smaller shapely glasses. Someone was leaving little packaged nugs around as party gifts? Dm found one and put it in one of his  pockets.

Dancehall was hopping. Some friends I’ve been skanking with all last year. Bryan, the itinerant dad of one of Tara’s elementary - we cross paths now and again. We didn’t talk at all, just skanked next to each other for a bit. I was tripping hard on dance dynamics. There were several hawt lesbian dance couples. They were captivating dancers.

Dang, I should crash

Next Outernational is my birthday. It’s also the Itals at Moe’s.

Finished my deductions for my taxes and am now at Outernational to celebrate. Several accomplices on route from different directions - JM, KF & iai. Some line dancing shit going on outside. Walking up, I thought we were outside and got excited. But we’re inside still. Alas.

The only dark they have is the ominous which I know I don’t like. So I tried the dark sour - oude brum - dont like it either. Might have to stoop to some hazys.

Just starting to bubble up. Eager to skank it off.

Oh damn. The line dancing is some sort of bridal shower. A gaggle of young partying hawtties just walked in fo drinkees

Wonder if they skank?

Don't ask them "You skank?", they might take it wrong.

Wot happen!?!

Just to clarify:

Did Ben call the cops at the end?

Did DM get surrounded by a threesome of young hawt dancehall divas who shimmed up to him because they 'liked his dancing'?

Did Ben & DM just turn on a young acolyte sword couple to the power of dancehall?

Just trying to get the story straight...

The cycling tour - the lone single story MP episode. And yes, that is its greatest contribution to the vernacular of MP quotes.

It was another night of basement inna dancehall. Brudda Ben was my main accomplice but also my KF cousin John, who was celebrating his birthday for a party weekend dubbed the Jon-athon, my other Kung Fu cousin Gigi who is quite the dancer and showed up with her bf(?) who she has yet to introduce me too (kinda awkward), and the young couple from iai that joined us for my birthday at China Cats (this was their first reggae and they took to it just like I knew they would).

There was a big country line dancing gathering happening outside. Ben was into it, as he partakes of that sometimes and knew the dance instructor. We watched for a bit until the sound clash was harassing my buzz way too much and we had to retreat back inside to the shelter of the dancehall. Brudda Ben (who knows everyone) bumped into this stunning diva, Nani(?), in the beer line who is the assistant to the DA that he knew from work.

DM was in the thick, dancing alongside too many divas. One gal - Tammy - was shimmying up way too close, and when dm took a video, she grabbed his liephone and him for a selfie pose. Will post that on IG later. Her bf showed up later and made DM thankful he didn't ask about deodorant. Not going there, not falling in that trap again, but it was fun while it lasted. Then there was the young hawt threesome, which was a moment that DM also kinda wished he caught on video because it was so surreal. Brudda Ben bore witness. The lead hawtty shimmied up to DM and said "I like your dancing" which is absurd because DM skanks like St. Vitus. Dm quickly checked around him for other bfs, but only saw her squad, two more hawtties, close behind him. DM was caught off guard and has since thought of several witty comebacks beyond the "Thanks!" he said at the time. Bottome line - t'ings hawt inna dancehall.

Then at the end, as DM was coming out to the bathroom, a fight broke out. A dude who was the ex-housemate of some gal (who was with her date) threw a glass of water in her face then punched her on the nose. She went down. DM hesitated because when he's not wearing a radio, he tends to avoid getting involved, but Brudda Ben jumped in, puling DM into the fray. We separated them along with a few others, and DM helped escort the due outside while Ben comforted the victim and helped her call the cops. The cops arrived. The dude who threw the punch was too stupid and had hung out, so the cops put him in custody and took a lot of statements. It was a bummer end of the evening, but Ben will stand out as the hero of the night - good on him.

Next Outernational is in April on a Friday when I can go, and it'll be outside again. Looking forward to that. Outernational is my fav Rasta Cruz event.

Skimmed the cycling tour episode and had forgotten about Chapman's yellow face schtick. I think I was offended by that back in the day. I should've been. So much of Python is NPC now...
