Took myself to the local cineplex and watched an afternoon matinee in IMAX. So much thumping - highly recommended!!
What a gorgeous film...really amazing to watch.
Zendaya has more lines in this one...
Really, I recommend the big screen for this one...

Agree with TG: Must see on Big Screen. Still the best handling of the original material, very political, not as ecological as the book, has a couple of time-compressed edits that will annoyG-Man with his love of plodding linear storylines and hatred of intuitive jumps (“plot holes”)
Just tremendous. I hope he gets green-lit for Dune Messiah.

I think I only read the first three. I barely remember the first one. That was high school when I was young and innocent...

Is Lady Jessica still overly emotional in the second film? Making her character act in ways that were opposite of all her training was a big problem for me in the first film.
As for book two, I found it pretty good when I reread it, way better than I remembered. I was too young to get all the political/religious stuff in there the first time. It is rather talky though, so maybe hard to film.
First trilogy good, second trilogy not so much. Stop at book three.
I still have much fondness for the David Lynch Dune. It's a movie like Excalibur or Zardoz: both great and ridiculous.

That is true and I agree.
Jessica is better in part II and a big part of why it is so political. I liked it better than Dune I.

I third the D00M thumbs up on this one. That was very entertaining and really must be seen on the big screen. The final battle was an awesome eyeful. Plus the sound. You need some big speaker to rumble bass like that. From the music to the explosions to the thumpers, those big bass bombs hit home. Made me jonze for some live reggae. Soon come... I drove home to KPFA's Reggae Express on full volume, just to extend that bass bomb high.
Speaking of bass, KB, you'll be delighted to know Lady Jessica steps up. She kinda had to so as to forward the plot. I share your criticisms of p1 on her, and I felt her character came together well in this installment.
Dune is such an odd experience for me. As I've mentioned here, sometimes I can't remember a movie I saw a few weeks ago. But I remember odd bits of reading Dune like 45 years ago. Some situation will happen in teh movie that I'll recognize. Brings back some warm memories of High School sci-fi book binging.
I loved the design of this. The Harkonnens in that monotone was sp stark, almost gigerian. The action scenes were all on point. The big battles were awesome. And the blade-2-blade (yeah, okay, they had me at space sword fights) was thrilling. The choreo wasn't overly impressive, but it was clearly depicted so you could follow the combat conversation. Roger Yuan is a vet (lady cranefly - is this the guy you thought looked like me? Because I'd be totally flattered by that. I have great respect for Yuan's work). The big battle stuff was the freshest I've seen. LotR catapulted the giant cgi battlefield shots and they've been continually getting more awesome. This was state of the art. Who doesn't luv big ass space battles?
I luved the worm riding. I thought they nailed that.
Unfortunately, cf & lcf couldn't make it, but I did have dinner with them and that was delightful as always. Got to meet their new cat. You guys should definitely try to make it to the theater for this.
D00M recommended on the BIG SCREEN.
I really must see the Lynch (not Gref) version again. I only remember the most Lynchian scenes.
