Former Fleetwood Mac guitarist/singer Lindsey Buckingham announced he’s releasing a self-titled LP on Sept. 17, sharing the first single ahead of the set, “I Don’t Mind,” today. It’s his first solo album in a decade.
Additionally, Buckingham disclosed dates for a tour to launch on Sept. 1 in Milwaukee and will run through Dec. 20, concluding at a stop in Boulder, Colorado.
More from SPIN:
“‘I Don’t Mind,’ like many of the songs on the new album, is about the challenges couples face in long-term relationships. Over time, two people inevitably find the need to augment their initial dynamic with one of flexibility, an acceptance of each others’ flaws and a willingness to continually work on issues; it is the essence of a good long-term relationship,” Buckingham said of the song in a statement.” This song celebrates that spirit and discipline.”
Buckingham has released seven studio and three live albums as a solo artist beginning with 1981’s Law and Order. The new record was produced and recorded by Buckingham at his home studio in Los Angeles.
Lindsey Buckingham is his first solo release since 2011’s Seeds We Sow and follows his departure from Fleetwood Mac in 2018, which saw him replaced by Crowded House’s Neil Finn and Tom Petty guitarist Mike Campbell. Last year, Buckingham surfaced on TikTok following the viral “Dreams” moment. Perhaps more enticing for Fleetwood Mac fans, the guitarist and Mick Fleetwood seemed to bury the hatchet surrounding his departure from the band, which could lead to another reunion tour. But until then, this will suffice.
The album will be released via vinyl, CD and on all digital and streaming services. A limited-edition blue vinyl version is also available for pre-order.

Lindsey Buckingham and Wife Kristen Messner Divorcing After 21 Years of Marriage
The former Fleetwood Mac singer’s wife filed for divorce ahead of the release of his latest single that touches on relationship difficulties

After over two decades,
Lindsey Buckingham and his wife, Kristen Messner, are calling it quits.
Messner, 51, filed for divorce from the former Fleetwood Mac singer and guitarist on June 2 in L.A. County, PEOPLE confirms. The couple tied the knot in 2000 after meeting in the late '90s when Messner photographed Buckingham for one of his solo album covers. They share three children -  son William, 22, and daughters Leelee, 21, and Stella, 17.
Telling the Las Vegas Review-Journal back in 2011 that he was lucky to meet Messner later in his life, Buckingham, 71, said, "I had a lot of crazy girlfriends, and a lot of that was just an outgrowth of the lifestyle we were all leading."
"I did see a lot of friends who were parents and spouses - back in previous decades - who weren't really there and kind of screwed up their kids and were not there for their family situations. So I waited and I was lucky enough to meet someone relatively late… it's worked out really well," he continued. "I got all that other garbage out of the way."

Amid their split, Buckingham is preparing for the release of his upcoming EP and North American tour later this year.
On Tuesday, the singer shared the news about the self-titled EP, which is his first solo release since 2011's Seeds We Sow and follows his departure from Fleetwood Mac. Written, produced and recorded by Buckingham at his home studio, the project drops Sept. 17 including his latest single "I Don't Mind," which hints at his own love life.

"'I Don't Mind,' like many of the songs on my new album, is about the challenges couples face in long-term relationships," he said in a release. "Over time, two people inevitably find the need to augment their initial dynamic with one of flexibility, an acceptance of each others' flaws and a willingness to continually work on issues; it is the essence of a good long term relationship. This song celebrates that spirit and discipline."
The upcoming release will be paired with a 30-city U.S. solo tour beginning Sept. 1 and leading up to the holiday season. Tickets for the tour go on sale June 11.

Is it even Fleetwood Mac if there aren't relationship problems somewhere in the music?

truth

It's remarkable how consistent Lindsay's sound is now. "I don't mind" could've been a track off Mirage. And that was nearly 40 years ago...

Funny, I have a memory of talking to either Scapino or Yeti's brother Ross about the Gypsy video. Whoever it was liked the imagery but hated the song. I loved them both of course.

That was when video was fresh and young, and prior to when we formed DOOM. Such innocent daze...

Lindsey Buckingham says Mick Fleetwood wants him to return to Fleetwood Mac
Maureen Lee Lenker  5 hrs ago

Don't stop thinking about tomorrow — especially if that tomorrow includes a reunited version of Fleetwood Mac.
[Image: AAN6MvA.img?h=1064&w=1598&m=6&q=60&o=f&l=f&x=928&y=336]© Provided by Entertainment Weekly D Dipasupil/FilmMagic John McVie, Christine McVie, Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham, and Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac, in 2014
The band parted ways with Lindsey Buckingham back in 2018, but ahead of the release of his self-titled solo album this September, the guitarist tells EW that fans shouldn't count out a potential reunion one day.

"There have been intimations from Mick [Fleetwood], who I've talked to several times, that he wants to try to get the five of us back together," he says. "I did not see their last tour. I'm sure it was fine, but I think it was probably very mellow by comparison...They were covering so much other Fleetwood Mac material, and they were doing Crowded House songs and Tom Petty songs. So, I wasn't sure how that was going to pan out, and I wasn't sure how Mick ultimately felt about it either, but that was the politics of the situation that led to that."

Buckingham was ousted from the band in 2018 following a request that was reportedly instigated by his former bandmate Stevie Nicks. At the time, Buckingham said he was informed by Mac manager Irving Azoff that Nicks never wanted to share a stage with him again. He was replaced by the combination of Neil Finn and Mike Campbell on Fleetwood Mac's tour shortly after.

But despite the seeming finality of the request from Nicks (and a since-settled lawsuit from Buckingham), he's hopeful that the world could see the five most renowned members of the group back together one day in the future.

"Mick — he didn't want to see me go in the first place — but he's talking about that," he says. "I would never hang my hat on that. It's really going to take Stevie coming to that point of view, and I haven't spoken to Stevie in a long, long time, so I don't know where that's at. It's certainly something that more than one person who is close to the situation has brought to me."

As for his part, Buckingham would be more than open to the prospect of returning. "I wasn't happy about how that went down," he reflects. "It wasn't so much that I felt slighted that I didn't get to do yet another Fleetwood Mac tour, but I thought it really did not respect the legacy that we built, which was all about overcoming adversity."

"Anything that anyone had an issue with, with me, was so small in comparison with other things we managed to rise above," he adds. "So anyway, that's a — perhaps slim — possibility."

Come back to EW this fall for much more from Buckingham on his new album, which is available everywhere Sept. 17.

Why is Stevie so uptight, man?

I am curious what the current dispute stems from orwhether it's just a continuation of the long standing hard feelings.

On Sunday night, the Queen and I watched Wednesday's episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. The Queen asked me who was on and I told her plus the musical guest would be Lindsay Buckingham promoting his solo album. And the Queen says, "Who is Lindsay Buckiingham?"

Um, what?

They were playing an internet game where you add a food to a band's name. I think the winner was Fleetwood Mac and Cheese.
