I thought I'd check this out to see Simu Liu, who is cast as Shang Chi. It's a Canadian sitcom about a Korean family running a convenience store. It's charming
I'm enjoying it. The eps are about 20 mins and I let it run as background when I'm writing. I really like Andrea Yang - she has great comic timing and she's super cute as Janet. Kimchee (Andrew Phung) reminds me of an amalgamate of many people I know. He's the only one I relate to because of that. I worked with Koreans for 20 years but I barely understand the culture.
Simu is cool. He's a hottie and it's refreshing to see an azn male hottie. His female caucasian boss is crushing on him and she's super awkward which is humorous and works for me because you just never see that.
I'm almost through season 1.

I liked this too. There is a sort of martial arts themed episode coming up for you.

Strangely this is my Xmas eve binge this year. Season 2 starts with Janet moving out which hits home because this is the first Xmas that Tara isn’t with us.

Finished Season 2. I can't resist episodes under a half hour. So bingable.
Still enjoying it for what it is. The characters are getting more vapid as the sitcom puts them into more ridiculous situations. I appreciate its diversity.
I'm not that impressed by Liu. He's my least favorite character of the regular cast. But he's also the most vapid. It's all about Janet, Appa and Pastor Nina for me.

How did you get through the Gay Pride week episode? The episode seemed offensive and stereotypical. I almost turned it off. S1Ep2 was better but still not that funny. I did like the interactions between the ladies at the church and the Reverend.
All in all, it doesn't seem that funny to me.
As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm

It's got a bit of the Archie Bunker syndrome - Appa has his bigotry. That's in part the point whenever you're telling minority stories especially in a sitcom. But it's from a reverse perspective. It's that same line that Blackish and Fresh off the Boat walk, parallel to the 'Black Lives Matter' vs 'All Lives Matter' issue. This is where cancel culture gets muddled.

Mind you, I'm not endorsing this sitcom as the greatest thing ever. It's just what I'm watching now. I was curious about Simu Liu and got engaged with Andrea Bang and a few others.
Greg - skip to the Hapkido episode that KB recommended above (S1e7). If that doesn't amuse, bail on it.

Finished season 3 & binged halfway through s4. S5 starts on Tuesday but in Canada. They haven’t announced when it’ll come to Netflix.

Finished s4. A cliffhanger of sorts, more so than any of the previous seasons. That’s all that Netflix carries. Still amused. Still all about Janet and Kimchee but Pastor Nina has lost me with the Jimmy arc.
I’ll watch s5 when it becomes a available.

I found S5 on YouTube. E1 resolved the cliffhangers quickly and we're nearly back to it's typical sitcom stories with some variations. These are so light - comfort food like cheese puffs - 3 eps are available but I should really get to bed.

Watched 5.2&3. They're going for more emotional depth now. And the car rental staff is becoming more significant. Feel weird with Simu away but I'm sure they set it up this way so he can literally do his scenes over Zoom while attending to being the newest addition to the MCU.
Still enjoyable. I wound up watching some associated vids about the original play and some interviews.
Hope my rogue YouTube keeps posting s5 eps, or that I find another more reliable source soon.

E4: a completely Simu free Ep. Must be tough getting into the mcu. There’s a lot of focus on new characters which aren’t quite working for me. Not enough Kim family dynamics.

E5: Simu is back. More of the same. It's become like a comfort food, this show.
Btw, for KB - S5 is being posted free access here - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCM7vnyr...R_vX0-fMdg
