So how did your dental visit go, cf? Stacy's went okay but she's rescheduled for some work next week.
I'm beginning to wonder if my tmj issue is connected to mask wearing. If I wear a mask instead of a bandanna, it pulls on my left ear and that's really close to my clenched cheek muscle. I loop that strap over the ear part of my sunglasses now. The tmj was subsiding so I became lax about topicals and now it hurts again. So now I'm back on topicals. Tomorrow night maybe I'll drop another benzo, not tonight tho, cuz I have a zoom meeting first thing in the morning.

I now have a temp crown on the molar, will go back in two weeks for a perm.
It was interesting watching the dentist work alone on me. She's young, but very skilled. She has a loud clear voice, which I appreciate because of my poor hearing. The problem is, in dealing with eyeglasses on a lanyard, a mask, and hearing aids that hook behind the ear, the hearing aids are just a tangly bother so I pocket them, and then the dentist is wearing a mask that muffles her voice. So, it's hard to hear her, and follow instructions.
Early on she was asking something and I couldn't figure it out. She kept repeating it. Then I understood: "Do you gag easily?" I told her no, hoping it was true, all the while having images of Linda Lovelace sitting in my place and answering that question. Anyway, the dentist put some contraption in my mouth that forced it wide and kept it there, and fixed a suction hose way back to get saliva and water and debris.
She worked faster than I would have thought and finished in under an hour. It's a good solid temp. Like I say, she's very skilled. But expensive.
A couple friends keep urging me to get a dentist in Modesto, telling me that the low cost will more than offset the inconvenience of a long drive. A bit tempting, but I trust this dentist, and I've had a couple friends who've had nightmare experiences with incompetent ones.

A good dentist is hard to find. That's why we went to SF. If you want cheap, go to Tijuana. We tried that too. I have a good dentist, a brother in the Wulin, who I'm long overdue to see. He's in Fremont, and I'm looking at moving from there as it was convenient when I worked there but no more. He gives me personal service (no assistant) and decent discounts, so I'll probably stick with him.
Some how I knew you were going to go all Lovelace from the very start of your post. I was waiting for fangs and diaphanous white gowns. Glad it went well.

Sooo... My temp crown came out last night.
I'd just baked a bundt cake, was chatting with LCF about something, and absently broke off a crisp corner of the crusty top -- all sugary, crunchy, and, yes, sticky like taffy. Just a little bit that I was absently chewing while jabbering away, until I realized there was a hard chunk of crust in my mouth. Couldn't chew it down. Then my tongue discovered the reservoir where I used to fish for smallmouth bass.
Dammit.
Trying to get hold of the dentist today. Feel like such an idiot. At least I didn't swallow it. But really, who's expected to maintain a temp crown for 19 days? I made 11 days. For that I deserve a ... well, a crown.
So not looking forward to another round of this temp stuff.
But I've learned my lesson. No more talking to LCF. Not until this lockdown is over.

The receptionist called me back. She can't schedule anything because their computer network is down. They've got technicians working on it. But she can't even see the schedule or the dentist's availability.
She'll update me tomorrow.

My TMJ had almost completely subsided, so much so I was considering posting here about that. Then I had a big yawn I caught from Greg reacting to scapino’s longwinded tale about nothing on the DOOM zoom and that triggered a massive click. The click is back but at least it’s not sore anymore.
I realized I was sticking my tongue in a crack in my tooth a lot and that was one of the causes of the strain. When I stopped doing that, the TMJ reduced.

Yesterday, 8 days after my temp crown came out, I went in for the permanent. The dentist told me that she'd likely have to make adjustments, because of shifting in the neighboring molars. Also, I was to be a guinea pig. After their computer system problems two weeks ago, their X-Ray machine broke down. They need it for a perm crown. Now I found out they had to get a new X-Ray machine. This one is more uncomfortable, because the plate is less flexible, and it bites into the gums. But it was a brief inconvenience. The big advantage is that within three seconds they have the X-ray up on the screen. The dentist had the screen right there for me to see. To everyone's surprise, the permanent still fit, and it was a fast session getting it all sealed into place.
Very little drama, and a big relief.
Now I just have to be careful and not to do something stupid again, like eat.

I hate posting on this thread because you lot just have to one up me. ‘Oh that’s nuthin! I just lost my finger/eyeball/testicle/whatev. But here goes.
I jacked up my right wrist like a year ago and I kept reinjuring it, mostly because keyboarding and driving exacerbated it. But the SIP gave me a break and I feel much better. I think it’s finally healed.
Couple of days ago, I woke and my left wrist was jacked. I have no idea why. Slept on it wrong? Hurts like hell. Like a bad sprain. But I didn’t do anything. Maybe Yuki jerked me in an awkward way? I dunno.
What a drag it is growing old...
