DOOM art

And thanks to you both for showing up! Although from a purely financial standpoint I did poorly; nothing sold. I am definitely outside the taste of the majority.

Yes that was a delight and the symbolic ballista that launched me into a wild week. KB, your dragon painting was like the signpost - I wish I took a pic for my gram. Enjoyed the short porter w/ed w/SJ hipsters and the worst plastic cup of red I’ve ever had in my life as well as the cheese platter. mmm cheese. Twas a delightful evening for sure. Let us know when the next one might be.

Hey - I'm buying your snake to complete animal triptych.

But I understand your frustration. Almost everything else at the show was first-year art student stuff. The only exceptions being the cool metal tree stuff by the door and the lady on the opposite of your wall doing weird mixed-media self-portraits of her head surrounded by her various interests.

Sorry bud - your style is not mainstream.

I freaking love our "Alligator" and "Rhino". They are filled with such energy and (a word I hate) "style" but they convey a feeling of intensity (the gator's and rhino's crazy jaws) .

Over the years I have met many artists, but yours are the only ones I have hanging on my wall (aside from a signed original from my friend Shepard Hendrix for a graphic novel).

That show did not expose me to a new and wonderful vision of upcoming artists. It was a rehash of 'look at me, i'm an artist' table of crap. No one stepped outside the bounds except you and a very few others.

Should be more art up your way, right? I forgot to ask if you were in the hip part of town.

Too much art in the Cruz. We have 1st Friday open studios and it’s ridiculous here. So many studios. Some fine stuff too.

Ed’s post got me thinking. Kb have you ever done a crucifixion?

DM - you know I don't really do representational. I thought about doing one a very long time ago, but never found an angle that I liked.

Around that time I also thought about doing the Tarot Major Arcana as abstracts, but the only one I did (and what made me think of doing the rest) was The Sun and I couldn't think of any way to do the others.

I've been thinking I should dig up my crucifixion studies from High School. I know I still have them somewhere. Back when I was dabbling, I felt studying the classics was the way.  I've been thinking that I should tackle Las Meninas since Madrid and then seeing Picasso's & Dali's versions.  But that's way beyond me.  As is the Tarot.  Nevertheless, I still believe in the exercise of classics like that.  I was toying with illustrations for Alice in Wonderland or something along those lines.  Maybe if I illustrated something martial like Art of War or 5 Rings I could sling that off on my readership.  Yeah, like I have the time for that nowadays.

I've always thought you could do a fantastic deck of playing cards, kb.  You've already done the Joker - you've only got 51 more to go.

There's something about that picture that makes me smile.

It was such a nice night having a beer with DM and hooking up with KB after so many years.

These are my friends.

Then KB strong armed me into buying a painting. That mofo is crazy.

No shit. Just look at his art. That’s some crazy canvas right there. I put it up around my office to make me feel more sane. Also to disturb the casual observers.

I think my lack of enthusiasm for art openings might be visible in that picture.

Truthfully, ED wanted to be strong-armed. Some things never change.
