Bruce Lee - a Life by Matthew Polly
#1
I usually don’t post about books I read for work because that would be as boring as tQ’s romances I imagine but I just finished the galley of my dear friend Matt’s new book - the first comprehensive biography on Lee. There was a lot I knew but a lot that I never knew - excellent read. Highly recommended. It comes out this June.

As a matter of fact, I would like an ARC.

You know, I could've got you a galley IF you reviewed books for any major media source aside from KFTC because obviously I have that covered.

I did arrange for galleys to be sent to Philip Ng (just another star in my celebrity circle) and a friend who writes for Vibe.

But no.  You're too busy STRO-kin off.

Get a room!

As a favor to Matt, I’m running a feature article in the next issue and hooked him up with Philip Ng, my HK actor friend who played Bruce in Birth of the Dragon. Phil graciously gave Matt a review blurb.

Today I got a thank you gift from Matt. A bottle of Green Spot. That is true Shaolin brotherhood.

I remember Dean bitchin when Schifrin poached his JKD provost thesis. It was a silly thesis premise because Bruce’s thoughts on Castello were immature. Not as developed as Musashi.

A fencing vs. jian article is in he KFTC future featuring the Hee sisters. Thanks for the assist on that, Maestro!

The *Cho* sisters. Carol Hee is merely the mother...! Why do the Chinese kids take the dad’s family name, but not the mom’s? Why doesn't the mom take the dad’s family name?

That explains a lot - like why Samantha wasn’t coming up on searches.

Sabrina and Gracie Cho. Nice kids.

My Lyft driver today is a BL fanatic. Tiny BL hanging from his rearview mirror. Long talk about BL during the ride and he was pumped to hear about Polly’s new book.

Read it.

Yep, lots of information. It all seemed very familiar. That Wong Jack Man fight seemed like a whole lot of nothing.

My main takeaway is that Bruce Lee was a jerk.

BL v WJM is still hotly debated - drives me feckin nuts. Who cares at this point? Turns out most of my readers do.  Confused

All martial artists are jerks on some level. Jerks or survivors. Why else would we put ourselves through the torment we do? It's all about burning off samsara.  And often the survivors, having survived our challenges, makes us jerkier.  Blush
