Every single Chow flick got me to chuckle hard at one point or another, which is saying a lot as I can sit through a lot of other comedies with barely a smirk. I still enjoy his mo lei tau sense of humor. It's dumb, but never dull.

After watching that trailer, I have no idea what the movie is about.
But I laughed out loud a couple times. So. Is Stephen Chow as bad as various film people are claiming him to be? Or is this a McCarthyist witch hunt by film people trying to endear themselves to the Chinese government and thereby protect their careers, by throwing the creative genius Stephen Chow to the wolves? At this point I'm not sure...

As we just met our submission deadline yesterday, I'm going to cut out of work early today to see this at Great Mall a few exits down the highway. So if all goes well, I'll have a forum review next week. It's playing at Shattuck near you, ED. It's also at Metreon, Union City, Daly City, & Cupertino Square. It probably won't be there long. Sony only released it to 35 theaters, but six are in the Bay Area. Greg, it's also at Baldwin Hills, and perhaps a few more near your 'hood.

Journey to the West: The Demons Strike Back
Written by Chow, this has some moments of mo lei tau but make no mistake, it's a Tsui Hark flick. It's truer to the book, focusing on the spider demon and red boy chapters. Perhaps that's why I liked it more. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unfamiliar with the book because no time is wasted on explanation - you need to already know. It's all about the CGI which is spectacular and exhausting in 3D IMAX. I had to keep closing my eyes and taking off my glasses because my eyes were getting sore. Jelly Lin was luminous. Lots of great demonesses. Pig spider sex. The after credit scene was the funniest.

To be appearing on Netflix. I'm sure DM will be posting a link to post where he revealed this information previously.

I'm thinking Nezha Reborn helped seal that deal. http://www.brotherhoodofdoom.com/doomFor...p?tid=6251

Been rumors about it for years. Lately Chow announced he would do it but it’s a total reimagining - all female leads. But just rumors.
