The Addams Family

Agreed with Greg. The new animated version had its moments. It was more in the wake of the movies, but held truer in form to the original cartoons, and at the end, there was a lovely tribute to the TV show. My fav line was 'Pink is a gateway color' a sly easter egg to the fact that the original TV show set was pink. This animated version reconciles all the previous franchises.

Charlize vanished again into her role, tone-perfect for Morticia. Allison was a decent villainness and Chloe was a solid Wednesday. Nick Kroll nailed Fester, and Snoop as It was just a funny concept, but that worked. Lurch was well done. Oscar was a middling Gomez. Just like I can never let go of Adam West's Batman, I'm deeply attached to John Astin as Gomez. Raul never worked for me, and Angelica only marginally. The movies were all about Christina to me, but I won't write those off entirely - they definitely expanded the franchise.

I'm still upset that the movies let Thing out of the box. Here they exapnd Thing to have an eyeball bracelet. Thing has suffered woefully in recent years.

Yes to sword fights. In fact, like Greg said, it centers on Pugsly's right of passage sword dance. DOOM recommended. Definitely worth a chuckle or two.

Halloween with the New Addams Family (1977)

The original series was 64-66. Eleven years later, the entire cast is reunited except for Grandma, who was ill and passed 3 months after the show aired.

It's disappointing. First and foremost, it's in color. That spoils so much of the mystique. It reuses so many hackneyed jokes from the series, but they are mostly played out in the 70s. The plot is akin to any of the plots in the original series but it just doesn't work.

Yet another disappointment from Hallowcovidween 2020.

The only revelation is Lisa Loring (Wednesday) grew up fine. She still kept the sense of her original character and needed more screen time. I looked up her story - she married 4 times, first time when she was 15, 3rd time to a hardcore porn star (she wrote porn and did make-up). Wiki's last entry for her says she's trying to get a 4th divorce, and is still alive.

No sword fights. Not DOOM recommended at all.

If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times - taking Thing out of the box was the biggest mistake the franchise ever made.
