Doom Dogs
Hazel readily obeyed the trainer, but once he left she gave up obeying us after an hour or so. Not totally, so she did learn some things, but she was never so obedient as to go off leash in public etc. but that's a terrier for you.

The new neighbor for the rear granny flat moved his dogs in today. Joey is a sweet 14 year old male brown setter mix with a tumor on his rear leg. Notchy is a black female 8 year old pug mix with a hilarious tongue that constantly pants.

All the dogs met. They got along fine. The new dogs love the new yard and were eager to get into Yuki’s pen because he’s got a lot of toys and chewies. Joey dug into a pizzle braid.

Yuki, Notchy & Joey. The cbrite dog pack.

Good to have a pack.

I think so too. I mean I can’t teach Yuki all the finer points of dog life. Jingles never figured out how to lift a leg when peeing and I couldn’t quite teach him that.

I’m happy that they all seem to get along.

Now Squirtl - our other neighbors’ cat - that’s another story.

What happened to Skittles?

I always thought you should have at least two dogs so the dogs can keep each other company especially when you are away from them

Agreed on multiple dog philosophy

Good question. The previous tenant, as I may have mentioned, fed everything in the back yard. She bought sacks of kibble and bird seed. She also let it all get overgrown so it was a freakin jungle back there with all sorts of critters. When she left, the food chain ended and all the beasts went their way. We haven't seen Skittle since. I keep hoping he worked his was back to his old home. It's not far - maybe a mile or so east - and there are tales of cats doing that.

Now the backyard is completely clear. The ex of the other tenant built three planter boxes and filled them with veggies and bee attracting flowers. It's all clear, except for the prodigious fruit trees which drop ripe fruit by the tons daily now, so walking back there you're bound to get it stuck on your shoe and it's as bad if not worse than dog poop.

Stacy & Yuki returned safely last night. On the long road home, Stacy got Yuki a beef & cheese burrito at Taco Bell. NEW RULE: No Taco Bell for Yuki. It's amazing how much gas a little dog can put out.

The new Windham dogs are like a one-two punch. Joey, the older dog, has solved my gate latch, which is just a chain with some carabiner clips that hook over a pointy bit. Joey flips it open with his snout and both he and Notchy dart in going different directions, trying to steal Yuki's toys. This happened a few times already. I can latch the gate more securely if needed, actually locking both carabiners, but Joey is strong enough to push the whole fence over if need be. Joey has also been digging up the planter boxes that my other neighbors ex has so painstakingly created during the pandemic. Both Joey and Notchy need baths. They reek.

Yuki is growing so quickly. We now suspect he might have some chow because he's got some black spots on his tongue. Also, there's a chance he's got some corgi because he's growing disproportionately. His head is too large for his body, his body is long and wieneresque, and his legs are short. Another dog owner commented that he has a corgi butt. It's bumming us out a bit because we hoped he'd be a good long walker.

Your post about people guessing dog breeds reminded me of a story.

I was out walking Maeve and Dani and I bumped into one of the neighbors. He asked me what type of dogs I had. I said Australian Shepherds. He responded that they looked like they had a little Border Collie in them.

No. Purebred Australian Shepherds.

Maybe a little Sheltie, too.

Maybe don't put a lot of stock into what people think about your dog's breed.

Is this what Yuki's puppy training class is like?

No, we're outdoors and in masks.

We're moving from puppy class to dog class next week. Puppy class is really more of an intro.

We took Yuki to sf for his next shot and met his brother at the shelter for the same reason. His brother looks a lot like him, only with more of a shepherd head and blacker. They did a genetics test: 1/4 shepherd, 1/4 Chow, 1/2 Australian sheepdog, cattle dog & chihuahua. So he’s a German-Aussie cattle chowhuahua.

Yuki & my mom met on the way home. That was fun.

That should make for a smart dog who has a lot of energy

Yuki was very interested in some beach sand. We figured someone spilled something there. I described the incident here: http://www.brotherhoodofdoom.com/doomFor...0#pid40620

Turns out he ate a lot more sand than we thought. He pooped out 4 good sand tootsie rolls today. That can't be comfortable. We thought he felt heavier. Hopefully he'll learn.

When Maeve can't sleep, no one sleeps. And Maeve couldn't sleep.

We had a lightning storm sweep through last night. A lot of flashes but not a lot of rumbles, which is what disturbs Maeve the most. But she equates the flashes with rumbles, so she paces and whines. I was up for about a half hour at 12:33 but the Queen took the brunt of it. She slept on the floor to try and comfort Maeve. But that hardly works.
