Chainsaw Man
#1

This has been a wildly popular cosplay recently.  I finally found it on Hulu and watched the first 2 eps. Crazy sanguineous because...well... chainsaws.

The premise is there's an out-of-luck kid who owes the mob for his dead father's debt. He's so poor that he lives on one slice of bread a day which he shares with his pet demon, a chainsaw yokai. That's plausible in the yokai world. Inanimate objects like lamps and umbrellas can be yokai. The chainsaw yokai is like a cute dog with a handle on its back, a ripcord starter for a tail, and a chainsaw coming out of its nose. The kid saved it by feeding it his blood when it was dying so it's very loyal. The mob hires the kid to be a demon slayer which he can do because he has the chainsaw yokai. But then the mob boss is a nasty yokai with an army of zombies. The zombies kill the kid and the chainsaw yokai and toss their dismembered bits into a dumpster. But the yokai gets some of the kid's blood, and melds with him.

Now the kid has a rip cord in the center of his chest like those old talking Gi Joe dolls. When he pulls it, his head turns into something like Venom but with a chainsaw coming out of the center and two more chainsaws on both hands. He makes short work of the zombies and the mob boss. It's one of the most sanguineous scenes I've ever seen.

Then the kid gets recruited by a demon slayer agency with a hawt boss lady that he's crushing on. His first partner, who keeps a katana strapped to his back, beats him up in an alley, telling him to quit. But chainsaw man strikes back by repeatedly kicking katana dude in the nuts. That did make me laugh because it plays out quite funny.

I get it. This anime is over the top sanguineous. Will I watch more? Maybe. The demons are cool - Junji Ito messed up.

Not D00M recommended unless you really like sanguineous anime (and honestly, this pushes my envelope).

I'm trying to imagine this in IMAX

or better yet, 4D. 4D would be like a Gwar concert.
