I remember liked this film but I could only remember a few odd scenes - the kid smashing a sword with his bare hands, wiggling ears after being blinded, iron sand palm. How I forget brass head is beyond me. I couldn’t remember the plot at all and that was because there wasn’t much of one. A team of escorts must guard a wagon of gold to relieve a famine. A gang is out to steal it.
It’s great if you like classic Kung Fu. Chang Cheh directs which redefines gratuitous fight scenes. It’s basically fight after fight after fight. The venoms crew plus several other stars of the era in caricature wuxia roles - short and long axe, silver spear, drunk, lady swordswoman, Iron robe, and lots of fodder - gangs and guards - to be randomly slaughtered. Lots of rude ways to die - stabbed, pierced, needled, poisoned, shish kabobbed, cut bloody characters in your back to send a message. Yeah, that’s the stuff.
Some beautifully acrobatic long sequences - so much respect for the skills of the cast. They make consecutive tornado kicks look easy. Alas, I remember a time when I could throw consecutive tornados across the floor. Now I’m lucky to get one mediocre one off.
