Yeah, as a man, this film is really awkward. For a woman, I'm sure the behavior of the men in the film is nothing new. But that is kind of the point. The phrase isn't Promising Young Woman it's Promising Young Man.
Cassandra spends her nights at clubs pretending to be drunk to see if any young man will be kind enough to help her. They don't. Instead they try to take advantage of her inebriation to violate her. Until she turns the tables on the young men. Cassandra is on a crusade to avenge her friend Nina who ended up poorly from just such an encounter.
The movie goes through all the justifications men use for their actions in these situations and none of the justifications are any good. The movie even ventures to the adult men and women who protect these promising Young Men and their justifications. Still not very good.
Even Cassandra's parents want her to move on from her tragedy, just get over it and start your life.
There's a lot more to the movie than that. But it is a pretty damming portrayal of young men and their libidos. The beginning credit sequence is particularly funny showing all the boys in their khaki pants dancing at the clubs and slapping their own asses.
I did like the film very much and my hate for my own gender is only enhanced.

As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm
