Tomorrow Never Dies (1997)
#1
I don't think I've watched this since it came out. It's the one with Michelle Yeoh and my classmate (who never spoke a word to me) Teri Hatcher. It's a Pierce one.

Memory is a strange thing. I only remembered Michelle's forward rappel scene, her fight scene and her 'Oh James' moment and that Teri died quickly. I forgot that Ricky Jay was in it. Luv him. I forgot that ED was in it too. Well, Jonathan Pryce doing his best impersonation of ED. Stacy called that out in like the first five minutes and I had to concur. Pryce is a shoe in to play ED for the great D00M biopic for Hulu. Okay, for Starz... El Rey?

It was fun to see again. Pryce is a bad caricature of Steve Jobs but also a newspaper mogul. Remember newspapers? Bond's super phone was like a Nokia or something ancient. Judi is M, Desmond is still Q, and Samantha Bond is Moneypenny (arguably one of the worst in that role for no fault of her own).

It's another recycled 'steal the nuke' plot, but an effort to destabilize UK and PRC. There's a lot of talk of GPS like it's exciting advanced tech. This is pre CGI so the stunts and explosions are real. Old Bond flicks are such postcards of the time.

Sheryl Crow sang the theme - totally forgettable. Perhaps the most forgettable Bond theme ever.

It's always great to see a young Michelle though. She was so hawt. Still is, even hawter now in that mature way because she's still kicking ass. But in the 90s, she was young hawt.

We enjoyed it. We realized that we missed the witty Bond quips which were such a part of the franchise until Craig got all serious like. Not to dis Craig in anyway - it's just a different take.

As for my memories, I thought Michelle's fight was in a barn, not her Saigon safe house, and that her final 'oh James' moment was on a sailboat, not the wreckage of the invisible ship. Understandable mistake.

Still luv Bond.
