The Thousand Names by Django Wexler
#1
The debut novel by Django Wexler is a really good book. The book is about the English venturing into Egypt and their adventures there. Except it's called Vordan for England and Khandar for Egypt. The story is told from the viewpoint of Marcus the Captain and Winter the Sergeant licking their wounds in the last Vordan outpost in Khandar. A new colonel comes in with new ideas to regain their standing in Khandar.

The novel is basically one long military campaign and all the battles. Lots of intrigue and great fighting sequences. Magic is afoot in Khandar and the new Colonel wants to get it before his enemies from Vordan get to it. Meanwhile, the Khandarians are trying to keep it for themselves.

I wanted this book to keep going, but it didn't. Now I want Django to write faster so I can get the next volume in the Shadow Campaign series. I'm hoping for a trilogy rather than a GRRM never ending saga. Still this book was self contained and is worth reading.
So much for the flickr badge idea. Dammit
