Michael Moschen @ Stanford 3/12/6
#1
It was a field trip for my kid to see Michael Moschen who I've wanted to see for some 20 years. He pioneered the field of contact juggling. He's the ball-spinning hands in Bowie's Labyrinth. Plus it was the first time I got a chance to interact with a lot of Tara's classmates. What fun! Took a long, long lunch (came in early, left late) but it was totally worth it. Moschen is not the artist of his youth, but he's still an amazing juggler. Most of his contact stuff wasn't as impressive as it was in the day, but it was still interesting. He relies more on raver toys now, stuff that looks trippy, but isn't that hard to manipulate. There was one I figure I could do using sword twirls - its was just the choregraphy that made it seem juggly. Still, no one knew what Moschen was about so I came off as the rather authoritative dad who knew a lot about juggling, especially for someone who doesn't juggle. It seemed to add to the martial arts mystique. I got to drive on more field trips...
