Why am I posting this when I haven't seen the movie or the poster?
Well, I did see a commercial for it. Lady Cranefly did too. We were both appalled at how poorly Anthony Hopkins maps to Hitchcock's mug. What I noted in particular, and which LC agrees with, is that Hopkins has a cavernous mouth best put to use in cannibal roles, while Hitchcock had this tiny purse of a mouth. In fact, in his autobiography, Hitchcock recounts how one time a mouse slipped up his nose and into his mouth while he was sleeping, and how he couldn't open his mouth wide enough to let it out. Okay, I might be making that last bit up. But Hitchcock with a cavernous mouth? How did Hopkins get the role? Did he sleep with the casting director?
Then again, who's to say Hopkins can't pull it off? But he's certainly built himself a lofty "suspension of disbelief" wall for viewers to climb.
But my real reason for writing this post is to urge DM to seek out a press pass or two to preview it. I mean, like, MAJOR KNIFE FIGHT!
Sorry if I've given anything away. But if ever there were a major motion picture with a definite martial angle, this is it!
