@ the De Young
Caught the last showing on Sat. It's a good time to go because if you hang back, the crowd thins a little at the end. Only a little tho, as it was closing weekend so it was packed. And they kick you out right after.
Mrs. Dm put it succinctly immediately after, "Picasso was THE MAN". A brilliant selection of works and studies. It never ceases to amaze me how poorly great art reproduces. Picasso's colors are electric, almost day-glo sometimes. In fact, his Portrait of Dora Maar is glowing, and his crazy self-portrait on black, well, that could have been black velvet instead of canvas. HIs Goat sculpture was hysterical from the rear view (he had a tremendous sense of humor). Studies for Les demoiselles d’Avignon and Guernica were revealing. Man with a Guitar was like falling into another time, another dimension, the cubist zone. Two Women Running on a Beach was disappointingly tiny.
