Megamind

Better than Despicable Me, and that's not just because I'm a Tina Fey fanboy. Actually Tina's voice talents were underwhelming, which was disappointing. Ferrell's voicing was great, and I'm not a huge Ferrell fan. Most of the trailer shows only the first half hour, save for one key spoiler scene (but that was totally predictable anyway). This isn't mindblowing, but it's consistently entertaining, and like Despicable, the minions, specifically the one named 'Minion', steals the show. There's a lot of satire of the original Chris Reeve's Superman, all of which went leaping (over tall buildings) over T's head as she's never seen it. The soundtrack is funny - Bad to the Bone, Highway to Hell, Back in Black, Crazy Train - again predictable, yet amusing. I was surprised to know T knows Crazy Train. Bad to the Bone is S's ringtone. Don't ask me why. There are some decent 3D moments, which was also disappointing as there are some nice city destruction scenes, made all the more amusing because the Metro City is clearly modeled on S.F.

I want to make a joke about the name Metro City but it would be a total spoiler. It's one the things I liked most about Megamind.

I saw it at home in 2-D and got to play the game of which of these scenes was made specifically for 3-D. I was less than impressed by Brad Pitt. I'm still wondering why the world is being subjected to Jonah Hill. I thought David Cross did a really good job as Minion.

I really liked the animation. Some of it looked like it was going for photorealism. But it was really well done. It had chuckles. It had good satire. It was predictable and yes the trailer spoiled the big fake out, but oh well. It was a kid flick and you probably could figure the fake on your own.

I say see it.
So much for the flickr badge idea. Dammit

"Despicable Me" was better.

"Megamind" played to the 3D audiences too much.

[SPOILER ALERT]Tucking the girls into bed is a much more rewarding ending.

Gotta follow ED here. Despicable Me over Megamind, no contest.

Just sayin'.
