A noir-ish, sci-fi movie. Subtitle: "A Strange Adventure of Lemmy Caution". An odd (ie: French) movie about a "Outlander" coming to Alphaville, posing as a reporter, but actually coming to take down Alpha 60, the totalitarian ruling computer that has outlawed emotion and individuality. Those who don't obey the laws are executed. By executed, I mean shot at with a machine gun while standing at the end of a diving board (usually after they've given their "Give me liberty or give me death" speech. The initial shooting is immediately followed by multiple stab wounds coming from a troupe of synchronized swimmers. Throughout the move there was this incessant "something's about to happen" music (like you often hear in '50-60's sci-fi movies), but most of the time, nothing happened. It was really distracting. The voice of Alpha 60 is somewhere between a larynx-ectomy patient with an electro-mechanical voicebox and Wendell Harper from KPFA news. Incomprehensible at times. It would have been more clear if Alpha 60 could sing "Daisy" at the appropriate time. Not sure if I would recommend this one.
