I really want to dislike Julia Roberts. I'm not sure why really. I just want to not like her. Nevertheless, once again, I found myself liking her. She's smart and sexy and duplicitous. And she's finally put on a few pounds so she doesn't look so freakishly anorexic. Clive Owen sports a lot of deer-in-the-headlights expressions which I imagine is a device to get us to identify with him. Can he trust Julia or will she double cross him? Who knows? It sort of works, but at the same time, it betrays his uber-cool spyness. And any film where Giamatti can go apeshit is amusing.
Not a great film but a fun little spy thriller/romance. It's funny but not violent. A good date flick. They even play Baccarat, the game of spies.

It's the giant vein in her fivehead.

I like giant veins. Well, truth be told, I like unusual looks. I do like scars, which is one of many reasons why Tina Fey will always have my attention. No, there's something else about Julia that I really don't want to like but like anyway. It's all very dysfunctional.

How wrong can DM be? Well, this movie shows the extent of his JR blindness. This film was horrible. Does anybody want to watch the Sting where Robert Shaw triumphs in the end over Newman and Redford? Do you want the villians to be smarter than the bad guys? Sure the plot is all very twisty and convoluted but for some reason not very engaging. If the plot of the film was to make us not care and please just get to the punch line, well the film works admirably.
And as for JR, don't you think they could have hired somebody to do her hair and makeup? That way she she wouldn't look like she just came in from spending all night awake with her newborns.
I say Feh. DM's review was of Scapinoesque proportions.

It was so implausible that I figured out the "plan" almost instantly and spent the rest of the movie being confused as to why the "heroes" couldn't figure it out. Wish I'd known Paul Giamatti was in it; I would have vetoed watching it on those grounds alone and then have those two hours of my life back. Super spies referring to building plans on paper? Really? And it was the old lady who was "in" on it and not the dufus computer geek who "doesn't organize things that way" and refers to frickin' notes on pieces of paper??? Really?! It was good eye exercise - I was rolling them the whole time, except when my lids were closing involuntarily through the incredibly boring bits. How could those two have any less chemistry?
Allow me to add another feh.

Don't comedies usually have bits in them that evoke laughter or even amusement?

I'm thinking a lack of sobriety may have been involved. Otherwise, trust me, there weren't any laugh lines.

we have a very different sense of humor. it wasn't the laugh lines. it was just overall a funny situation, imo.
