When good writers write about writing, it's always enjoyable. This is a very short work, written in bursts of paragraphs about the process. Most of the rules are simple, but it's the execution of the lesson that's extraordinary. It's not as deep as King's On Writing, which remains my most recommended read to all fledgling freelancers. Dillard's is in her brevity. There's an eloganted finale about a stunt pilot that reminded me of a Mishima book, but I'm totally blocking on which one. That didn't work so well for me. Nevertheless, I will probably read this book again, and perhaps some more Dillard, since this is the first I've read of her.
