Man on the Run.

A decent doc, mostly about Paul in the wake of the Beatles, through the Wings years. There was some nice animation/montage segues and the music was very fitting for the topic. It’s Paul and Linda justifying themselves and they make some solid points - a few good revelations for me but I didn’t follow Wings that well. Several insightful interview clips. 

Back at Castle Highland, DM once dropped acid & listened to all the Beatles albums chronologically when he had the house to himself. It times out well for a trip for so many reasons. DM’s conclusion that it was much more about Paul than he previously thought. That violin bass is so profound.

The first was at UC Berkeley in 1990 - two nights working for Rock Med (still got that shirt). I was stationed at the top of the hill but a friend shared some seats that were a dozen or so rows back in the center. DM remembers his friend sparking a J right when the Live & Let Die pyro went off. All 4 shows were spectacular.

I think of Lennon and McCartney and being a bit like Picasso and Braque. For years, Picasso got all the glory for inventing Cubism, but it seemed obvious to me that Braque was actually the innovator.

I just watched this last week and thought I posted a review, but apparently did not. I thought it was OK, but covered the part of Sir Paul's career that annoyed me while growing up: Silly Love Songs, etc just brings back memories of becoming an awkward teen. 

I noticed, right at the beginning, when they cover the Beatles break up and Paul fleeing to his farm, they show the Life magazine with Paul's pic, with family on the cover, right next to the Camel Moonmadness album. That album came out in 1976, so it's much later than the Life magazine cover. No context, no mention of it...just weird. Maybe a vague reference to the moon landing which was more contemporary with the Beatles' demise. 



I'm more curious about Linda now. I didn't appreciate her in Wings, but she seems to be a pretty tough, interesting person. She also did her own styling. I wonder if Bowie's Ziggy took inspiration from her, or vice-versa. Then Paul had the same hair...borderline mullets. What an awful time to be alive.

In other news, we're having a 50th anniversary event at the fruit factory HQ next Tues. due to capacity issues, entry is based on a lottery. I just got the invite, so I get to go and they just announced the musical guest: Sir Paul!

Sadly, no. There are many waitlisted employees. Also, the only time guests seem to be allowed in the ring is for team holiday parties. I’ll report back about how awesome it was.

I hope he’s punctual. When I worked at the old main campus, before the ring was built, and pre-covid, they’d do beer bashes with musical guests pretty regularly. Once we got Stevie Wonder. My team was busy testing that day, but we’d go to the balcony overlooking the quad every so often to see if we could catch the performance. The show was over an hour late, and kinda meh when he finally played.
