Ballard

I’ve always liked Maggie Q. Daniel Wu dated her for a moment and told me some tales. This is a police procedural spin-off of Bosch (which I’ve never watched at all). Ballard is a detective with a history, betrayed by the LAPD and demoted to working cold cases with a squad of volunteers.

I’m 2 eps in (10 hour-long eps). The whole season is about a serial killer. The 1st ep didn’t grab me and I was going to bail but decided to check out another and now I’m engaged. Bosch makes a cameo but not having seen it, that wasn’t as dramatic for me. Nevertheless the show is well paced and the characters are growing on me. Maggie is delivering a solid performance, perhaps a tad overdone but this is TV. I’ll watch another ep.

Why doesn't anyone mention the obvious Easter Egg that Ballard lives in Paradise Cove?

Not digging the show. Saw two episodes. Might go under due to cliche overload.
As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm

Seen to e4. The chemistry of the cold case crew is coming together - a critical element in any police procedural. And Ballard’s ptsd continues to fester as she grapples with the code of blue boys club. I’m enjoying how female-centric this is and how the straight white men are assholes mostly. This show is about female trauma - e3 is a sidestep into a frat murder and it’s all about female victimization and male assholes. And its resolution is another deep wound.

In e4, Maggie wears a WildAid shirt. She’s been an activist rep for WildAid for years and with that gentle nod, I’m all in now. 6 more eps to go.

Binged to e8. Got sucked in.

I am reminded of Greg's comment on K-Pop Demon Hunters:

And I was correct.

But not for me.

This is also probably not for Greg. It's about rape and abuse and what it does to women.

I've done some real life rape counseling. I've done a few post-assault counseling in my psych work. I've even taken a class in it. I have some friends that are rape survivors. I'm sure you all do too. In fact, I know you do; you just might not know you do. This plays out well in that regard. It has some powerful storytelling elements about this.

Not sure if I D00M recommend it, but I'm engrossed. Just two more eps.

I was only going to watch one ep but got sucked into the finale. It got twisty at the end and the finale cliffhanger guarantees I’ll come back for s2 if it’s green lit. Overall a very engaging police procedural, with the bulk carried by Q, but the supporting cast was good too. And the serial killer - did not see that coming, nor what happened when the truth came out.

Final verdict: D00M recommended.
