OK, so this is the deal. AFS is losing their building, mainly cuz AFS cannot pay rent. You noticed we were out of foil blades when you came in? That is pretty basic. Anyway, boss is moving business to Pacifica (where he lives). He is talking about getting a storefront, but I have no idea how he can afford that, even without having to pay me. I don't think he does, either. Not my problem, however.
Scene shifts to one year ago. I'm talking with a friend and former roommate/teammate/coworker (at AFS) about the steep decline, and he asked if I thought the boss would sell the bidness. I said he'd be a fool not to, since running the biz ain't his strong suit. I put them together to talk and said a prayer or three. Well, boss seems interested, then a few weeks later changes his mind and doesn't follow through. This is not the first time this has happened. My friend had asked me if I thought the biz was viable, and I said "yes".
So, we started working on a bidness plan...
Right now, we are looking at a storefront in Millbrae (easy BART/Caltrain and freeway access...). We'll do brick-and-mortar and interweb sales. We have just this week signed the incorporation papers and got the bank accounts set up. I start ordering inventory this week. My last day at AFS will be September 30th. Boss still doesn't know. I need him to sign a paper acknowledging the $7k debt that he still owes me. I'll tell him afterwards.

The Monk of Drunkeness hath spake: Quote:maybe you guys could make a catalog that wasn't drawn by some drug addict.
That made me laugh out loud. Who am I going to share that with, though, who will get it?
The property manager is getting squirrelly on the lease terms, so it is back up in the air again. My last day isn't though.
Shirts will be had for everyone (uh...once there actually are shirts to be had, naturally).
Watch here for more news when it breaks!

Last day is tomorrow (well, technically "today"). My chest has been tight with anxiety all day and it will be worse tomorrow. 15 years there on this rotation, 2 years before that in the late '80's. Long time.
The property manager came around on the rent and the length of the lease on the new place; we are now haggling over who pays for the ADA work.
New place will have dvd-player and big flat-screen tee-vee. Could work for a DOOM gathering... :!:

Make that an EPOCH. The end of an EPOCH.
Cole, you were the best at AFS. I owe you for getting me in there when I sorely needed a job. We had some great times there too - broke-some-furniture great. AFS still holds a very dear place in my heart, but I was fortunate to leave before the downward spiral, before the passing of the late great Fred. And as your making-a-martial-living brother, I know you made a remarkable stand for your discipline at that lonely SOMA outpost. Or at least, you got away with a lot of chicanery in the name of fencing. But that's cool too. Much cooler than working for google, making a boatload of money and retiring early. Ok, maybe not. But ya done well there. Now be a good rat and get off that sinking ship.
Onward Yeti.
Onward to VICTORY.

Can you build a secret passageway? I mean a solid one, not something Victor Wong would fall through if he walked on it.
If you need a new catalog drawn, it would take several kilos to get back into that mindset.

Thank you, Doom Brothers. I'll keep y'all posted. I have no idea what "scrilla" is, but if it can be smoked, I may need some for DM.
Seriously, though - thanks.
