Hamsterdam? Yes. Rome? No — got there last Monday, so almost a week.
‘Dam is such a great town. We both know it, have our haunts, beautiful city (even in the cold & grey). Staying at airport Hilton, took train into the Main Station, then taxi in the light rain to our fave restaurant, Plantage. After an excellent relaxed dinner (highlights: Wild Boar ravioli, a Jerusalem artichoke soup with smoked portabello mushrooms). Just a buncha small plates. Sooooo good.
Afterwards, we walked 30 min back to the train station, and now back in our room at the airport. Our bags were checked through to SF, so we are both working from our back-up clothes. It turns out that we both travel with back-up clothing/meds.

Back to EuroLand! This time with 100% more Germany! We fly out next week to Hamsterdam, overnight, then train to Hamburg (required visit as Married Couple to H’s Host Family) then on to Berlin to hang with her friends (and a treat for me as Berlin is one of my fave cities). We'll return through Hamsterdam as is our habit, then I fly home and H departs for France.

Flying out tomorrow midday. Both H & I are packing lighter this year. Not such a big deal for me, but since H is staying for 2 months, it is a bold experiment.

I traveled during Bush II, so I know how to deflect hostilities by identifying as a “Californian”.
I also speak passable Canadian “Hockey, eh? That moose stole your Labats, eh?” “Tab-er-NAC!!”

Hamsterdam behind us, 2 train connections later, now in Hamburg. Finally starting to relax. Hamburg is a proper Big City (German Edition). Clean, old-money wealthy, very international, good supply of homeless, graffiti everywhere, kinda boring. Will be visiting with H’s Host Family for the next couple of days then scramoose to Berlin for the bulk of our stay.
Of course, we celebrated a return to Germany with a tunafish pizza. Next time, we’ll get the egg on it.
Missed the heatwave, just planning on having intermittent rain and 70 degree temps.
