For me his big song was "Sunday Morning Coming Down" - when I saw Johnny Cash play it live, it was intense, maybe the highlight of the show.
And he wrote "Me & Bobby McGee" and "Help Me Make it Through the Night." I've got a good reggae cover of the latter; I'll post it over there.

I respect who he was and what he contributed but I wasn't that into him. My strongest memory was when he sang The Gambler on the Muppet show.

I worked with him on Planet of the Apes. By worked with him, I think I saw him on set once.
