On Xmas eve we were going to watch Die Hard cos it's a Xmas movie, but we couldn't find it i
On any of the services we've got, so we instead started watching the 5th installment which was free. After about 20min, the stupid meter was pegged (McClane rolled a military vehicle during a high speed chase, with no seatbelt and rolled out of the wreckage with a cough and a wince...
So we decided to rent Equalizer 3 having seen the trailer (I think when we watched the latest MI installment in the theater). We've never seen any of the other movies in the series, so we had no idea of the back story which is that Denzel is an ex-agent of some kind. The movie opens with an Italian estate and a bunch of henchmen. They are holding Denzel in the barrel room at gunpoint. The don comes in. They exchange words and then Denzel kills everyone. As he is leaving, a boy shoots him with a small rifle. He escapes to a small village on the coast near Sicily (I think it was shot in Naples) where the town doctor puts him back together and as he recuperates there, he starts to really like to people and the quiet life, but he picks up on the mob working the local merchant and, like a Clint Eastwood character, that doesn't sit well with him...
The opening scene and the later mob story become intertwined and agent Dakota Fanning comes on the scene to investigate.
In the end, the bad guys get theirs. I was expecting some repartee between the kingpin and Denzel, but that didn't happen and made this feel like a vigilante revenge film. Also, the scene where Dakota gets the answer to "why" seemed really thin, with some pretty dumb dialog.
Lots of hand to hand combat in small spaces.
It is what it is. I didn't expect more from it. I've seen much worse action movies.
