Ya mon.

My neighbors are cray.

The Sandbar was my local. They held reggae sound systems every month. I was a regular before the pandemic.

Those colored painted cottages are the Venetian, where Nesto lived and worked as the night manager for years.

Santa Cruz Wharf reopens after being damaged by high surf

Updated: 3:55 PM PST Dec 29, 2023

Cristal Clark

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. —
The Santa Cruz Wharf reopened on Friday after being damaged by Thursday's high surf.
Following inspections and damage assessments, the city determined that part of the wharf was safe to reopen to the public.
The end of the wharf, including the Dolphin Restaurant, restrooms, and the sea lion viewing area, experienced significant damage. That area was fenced off and closed to the public while crews work on repairs.
There is no estimated time on when the end of the wharf will fully reopen.

This time you get a warning. Next time, there will be a penalty.

Also, be sure to resize the font when cutting&pasting. There's shrinkage since the last update.

I miss paste.

I was going to post some of the hardcore Mavericks clips, but then I saw this.

Richard Thornton, head coach of San Ramon Valley Aquatics since 1984, died following a medical emergency in Santa Cruz, his family said Thursday.
Thornton, 65, was member of the 1980 US Olympic Team that boycotted the 1980 summer games in Moscow. He coached Olympic finalists, World Championship finalists, European Championship finalists and NCAA All-Americans.
Marc Thornton released a brief statement Thursday on Facebook announcing his brother's death.
Richard Thornton was at The Hook, a popular surfing location near Pleasure Point in Santa Cruz, at the time of the incident.
Richard Thornton's father was Nort Thornton, the longtime UC Berkeley swimming coach who died in 2021

Tragic. But anyone who'd get in our surf now is batshit crazy.

NY Times had photos of California storm damage, and showed a photo of Santa Cruz (you have to go through the slideshow to see it) where it was of course raining, but there was foam everywhere. Are you guys having that foamy surf thing like they get in Australia?

Apparently so. We went out to Blacks beach on Friday and it was pretty foamy. I saw some footage of some crazy foaminess in my newsfeed this morning.

Woohoo. We are on tornado alert too!

North Santa Cruz just got a tornado warning. It came over the emergency broadcast (listening to the radio right now). Told everyone to take shelter.

A massive thunder strike hit about a mile away from me. Lit up the bungalow. I went to see Yuki who was looking out the window and he nearly jumped out of his skin when the thunder came (almost instantly). Poor dog. He hates thunder.

Stacy is working in the Bay and must come over 17 in about an hour. Hope things settle down. The emergency broadcast said the alert was on for the next 20 mins or so.

I saw a picture on Threads of some Super Genius getting his Cyber Truck stuck after driving it onto a local Santa Cruz beach.

Not that surprising that someone stupid enough to buy that idiotic vehicle would be stupid enough to get it stuck. I also saw an article saying that the rain is rusting the stainless steel because they shipped without a clear coat, instead offering it as an upsell.

The DeLorean bodies started corroding immediately during the Winter due to salt on the roads during icy weather. These stupid trucks should do the same near salt water
