Star Trek: Lower Decks

Is the Andorian chick related to Cassian? Is she the one he's looking for? What a great crossover!
As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm

E7 went a totally different direction following a selfish bot that was newly introduced. The Cerritos crew is only in the beginning and end. The bot is sentient and a meme er of starfleet, but it abandons the crew in a time of need and escapes to a planet of bird people to violate the prime directive. It was quite the outlier ep, not as strong because it lacked the crew chemistry.

E8 begins as a dumb holodeck story but then moves into a wicked parody of many of the movies, and ends with a spot on Sulu cameo plus a section 31 cliffhanger. Great stuff.

It’s been a good tv week.

E9 followed up on a tng ep that I don’t remember. Mariner has struck out on her own. Still funny but not the funniest.

S3 finale: Instead of ending on another cliffhanger, this season ended on a positive note that assembled all the Cali-class ships - only disappointed to find there is no Cruz ship (there’s Oakland and San Jose - no Raymond either). The CA ships are the 2nd contacters, a lower grade. The Texas class is a new breed - fully AI drone ships poised to replace the CA eliminating human error. This is still ST so we know where this will go.

A fine ep although not as funny as some of the others. It’s more heartwarming to see the Cerritos rally.

Hoping for s4…

Season 4 starts next week and I can hardly wait.

As a teaser, Paramount+ has put Season 3 on YouTube FOR FREE. Like the last time they did this, it'll only be available for a limited time.

Star Trek: Lower Decks | Season 3, Episode 1 | Full Episode | Paramount+

Totally D00M recommended.

(09-17-2022, 11:19 PM)Drunk Monk Wrote: S3e1: Still funny. Still my fav P+ST series.

This ep dives deep into First Contact lore, complete with a James Cromwell voice cameo. Boimler's raisin field was a funny play on Chateau Picard, and all the female grape pickers throwing themselves at him with double entendres was a superb bit of wit.

Could've used more Dr. T'ana.

The eps are only like 25 mins, so like She-Hulk, they are way too short. I'm going to blast through these like a barrage of photon torpedoes...

S4e1 was ok. It’s an homage to Voyager but I’m sure I missed some of Easter eggs because I don’t remember the series that well. Honestly I don’t know that I’ve seen all the eps. There’s the start of the season story arc which is about a mystery ship blowing up alien ships. It had a few good laughs like always but it got too caught up in Voyager love.

E2 was funnier. Moopsy is my new favorite alien. That’s hard to explain without totally spoiling thie best laugh in this ep.

E3 was ok but it was referencing some stuff that I wasn't getting which took a lot of the fun out. S3 seems weaker somehow so far.

S4e5 had Wendy Malick and Rachel Dratz as as betazoid emissaries and they were pitch perfect. Fun fact - Catians used to eat Betazoids. Dr T’ana continues to be hilarious. The trio chemistry of Mariner, Tendi the Orion and T’lyn the Vulcan has taken center stage and I’m all in for it. Worf slam poetry? Come on, that’s funny.

E6 opened with another ship getting destroyed by the mysterious overarching story this season, but that’s all there is with that. Then it was negotiations with the ferengi to join the federation whilst our plucky LDers tour the planet: Mariner gets in a random barfight, Tendi and Rutherford have to pretend they’re a couple, and Boimler gets lost in trash tv. A good ep, mostly for Mariner, Tendi & Rutherford. I missed T’lyn tho.

E7 the return of Badgey (an ai hologram gone bad), peanut hamper (an evil bot), and AGIMUS (another evil bot). Never liked Badgey but he was amusing here. The other two were good too because of their relationship. I don’t quite remember the AGIMUS ep. This ep would be hard to understand if you didn’t follow the series. This ep is more about Ruthaford, Boimler & Tendi - Mariner falls to the wayside but does have some of the better quips. An ok ep prolly packed with Easter eggs I missed because I was dialed into my frozen pizza dinner.

E8 - a totally stand alone ep mocking cave exploration themed episodes. This one was particularly good. The lower deck foursome get trapped in a cave with some agro mold, then they reflect on previous cave trappings, with plenty of Easter eggs to ST cave eps. Dr. T'ana was funny coupled with Rutheford.

E9 is the penultimate ep for this season. Boimler. T’lyn and Tendi are tasked with keeping Mariner in line as she goes on a heroic self destructive binge will the Capt, Rutherford, & Shax track down Nick Locarno, an character from TNG played by the same actor who played Tom Paris in Voyager. Both of those story arcs are surprising and fun, then in a twist, Mariner is brought to Locarno’s ship which is the ship that’s been destroying ships all through this season. Cut to ‘to be continued’. Season finale next week. I’m shivering with anticipation.

They stuck the landing. The season finale brought together we wrap story arcs hilariously, showcasing federation resolve and friendship loyalty, with one dangling cliffhanger that teased next season.

Still loving this show. We’ll done.
