Movies that were so godawful, even I couldn't get through it

All movies are “nappable”
In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.

Jordan Peele's next movie should be NAP.

Technically speaking, this is a Kaiju film. Yokai is the granddaddy of Kaiju. Kaiju is giant monsters like Godzilla and Ghidorah. Yokai does have some giant monsters (Millennium Curse goes there) but it's more about fantastic creatures from traditional folk tales. Most of these are more on the human scale. Kaiji is like King Kong and Attack of the 50ft Woman. Yokai is more like elves, fairies and gnomes, but they are umbrella and lantern demons, or women with really long necks.

Started Monster Seafood Wars on Amazon Prime but bailed about 30 mins in. It's very amateur, done half in a mockumentary style with people commenting on what happened and half in depictions of what happened. A goofy youth who reminds me of a Japanese version of the kid in Stranger Things loses a squid, an octopus, and a crab that he was going to offer to a temple. He's also invovled in some growth formula research but I didn't get far enough into this to find out much more. It's a lot of talky talk. The Kaiju are good parody - the octopus has eyelashes to make it more kawai (cute) and the music and noises the Kaiju make are spot on in echoing the original genre. But it's boring and a lot of the humor misses its mark. Needed more kaiju parody. It got to involved in telling a story that wasn't very interesting.

But the trailer is okay...

A League of Their Own (2022)

I know this isn't a movie, (Okay, it was a movie, but the TV show isn't that. The movie is a Classic) but I'm not starting a new thread. Although, I could just to give the Yeti hives. But I won't. I feel benevolent today.

But yes. This is the new Amazon Prime TV show based on the movie. It's been getting rave reviews. Maybe the reviewers saw an episode I didn't. The Queen and I were about half way through Episode 1 when I had enough. We didn't even get to team selection. They were still doing trying outs. It was deadly dull and unfunny and it wasn't making me exciting that I was seeing more stories from the Leagueverse. Blech.

Shouldn't there be a new thread? Management SUCKS!

We should start a petition to get them fired.

The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure (2022) by Jeong-hoon Kim

I decided to start down DM's recommended S Korean action movie list, but I was insufficiently attentive.  There are two movies titled The Pirates on Netflix, and what's after the colon makes a difference.

I watched about an hour of this one and it started to annoy me.  The main guy touted himself as the greatest swordsman in whatever, but I got tired of his childish braggadacio and his fighting did not entirely convince.  Why the heroine put up with him, and maybe was attracted to him, is beyond me.  Also, this was wall-to-wall noise in the form of action.  There were no high or low points, or moments of contemplation.

I napped, or tried to.  The movie kept waking me with noisy antics.  I finally gave up an hour into it, with an hour to go.

The real movie on DM's list is The Pirates (2014).  The one I started to watch is the "spiritual sequel."  Not certain what that means.

Now undecided on whether to watch the original or just move on.  I watched the trailer, and it doesn't look as irritatingly Jerry Lewis.

Maybe I just wasn't in the right mood.  Oh well...

The Bad Guys (2022) currently on Netflix

Looking for something to watch, we stumbled upon The Bad Guys. It had a good cast headed by Sam Rockwell as The Wolf, Mark Maron as the Snake, Awkwafina as the Tarantula and many others.

It might be geared for a younger audience because it was not for us. I got as far as the post car chase scene which was after the bank robbery. Boredom set in. Didn't want to follow along as this group of thieves try and steal a golden trophy awarded to the best citizen.

Astérix and Obélix : The Middle Kingdom

I have never understood these time-honored comic book characters, much less French humor. I get that the French love their comic books, almost as much as the Japanese. But A&O have always evaded my understanding. This Netflix film is set in China and my former graphic artist Plugo said we should review it but I gave that a hard pass (I said he could do it if he wanted to, which stops so many work task suggestions). I figured I'd give it a pass.

I only got a few minutes in and bailed. So dumb. So godawful.

Wise decision.

I felt it was my responsibility to see how Chinese were represented in this. That was a dumb notion and I regret it.
