Futurama: Bender's Big Score
#1
I was excited when I realized that they were bringing back Futurama in a direct to DVD feature length production. But much like DM's comments about the Simpson movie, there was just too much Futurama. It would have served better if it had been shorter. Rumour has it they are going to break up the movie into individual episodes when it comes to television. They should have done that for the movie release.

The best jokes in the movie come at the expense of the executive's who canceled the television show. They are scattered throughout the movie in long running bits. I guess they were a bit bitter about the cancellation of the show. Some of the jokes and the plot are bit heavy handed, but there is a moral about not handing out your credit card information over the internet, which only works if you suspend disbelief heavily.

I found one easter egg in the DVD. It was the story boards for a scene outside the pizza parlor. They made the story boards from Monty Python and the Holy Grail look like they were drawn by Da Vinci for his codex. You would think animators and cartoonists would be able to draw better. Plus, their penmanship is lousy.

From watching the DVD extras, I realized I did not understand enough math to get all the in jokes. They had a math proffesor and Futurama enthusiast talk about the different math jokes in the film. It was mind boggling the amount of esoteric math jokes are in the show. Some cab number is the smallest number you can have that is the addition of two cubes. I'm sure the rest of you laughed when you saw it. They also did codes for the alien language. If you know the codes you can decipher all the alien language graphiti in the shows. It was too much.

Futurama Math

All hail the Hypnotoad. I REALLY LIKED. IT WAS THE BEST THING EVER CREATED. ALL HAIL THE HYPNOTOAD. Make sure you watch the entire episode of Everybody Loves the Hypnotoad show.

This is the forth and final direct to DVD Futurama. From the way the movie ended, they do want to do another DVD but this is the end as far as Fox is concerned.

Mr Wong is rebuilding Las Vegas on Mars. Fry gets to be psychic. Lila joins feminist environmental group that wants to save Mars from Wong. Bender gets love scenes.I might have napped a little during the show. It's the usual Futurama. Jabs and jokes and computer humour.

As usual the funniest material is in the extras. My favorite is the making of Futuarama. Who knew everything on the show was done by Lauren Tom.

All Hail the Hypnotoad. The show did need more Hypnotoad. But then what show doesn't?
