Papa Lynch's World War 2 Book
I just heard from my editor at Casemate. Black Scorpion Diary is due to be published in May.

In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.

My grandfather pulled a section from The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich for his book. Now, I have to contact Simon & Schuster to see if I can have permission to use in the book.

Simon & Schuster permits two forms of contact for permissions requests. I can send the permission request via snail mail or I can fax it. What the serious hell?

Print is attached to print. Back when I was publishing in print, I could relate.

There are plenty of ways to send convert an email to a fax. I imagine you might use one of those free trial programs.

I still have a fax machine but no land line to plug it in...

I have fax machine, as it turns out and a land line. Took me some time to figure out to work it.

But come on. Can't I just attach a pdf to an email?

In the book, my grandfather added a bunch of newspaper articles to add context. Most of them are in the public domain or from long defunct. But a couple aren't and I'm trying to track down permissions to keep them in the book. I have one article from the AP that was written in 1942. It's about 300 words. They want $350 for me to use it. Originally, it was going to be $1850, but the man likes Veterans and is doing me a favor. $350 is about 20% of what I'm getting for the entire book. I can't imagine the man who wrote it almost 80 years ago received more than ten bucks for his efforts.

Do a GoFundMe page...it will work as pre-promotion for the book...boost sales.

How important is that article to the book?

I say cut it. But then I’m an editor. Cut cut CUT!

It's cut. Most of the things I'm asking permission for just add context an color to the story. None of them are vital and no one will miss them if they are gone. I'm not spending more money.

I spent this week editing the book, getting it ready for the real editor. This seems like work. I also filled in the publicity questionnaire. I see more Social Media Accounts in my future.
