All the Old Knives (2022)
#1
Chris Pine needs to find out who was responsible for helping the hijackers in tragic plane incident in Vienna. Clues point to two people one of whom was his lover at the time.

It was a pretty good thriller. It has a good cast which includes Jonathan Pryce, Thandiwe Newton, and Laurence Fishbourne. The film had an old time feel like something you would see in the 1970s and 1980s. The plot was kind of twisty and I was guessing up until the end.

I probably would have enjoyed it more if the film didn't cut out every three or four minutes. I think the problem was internet speed because I had a similar problem when I looked at Netflix. Or my Apple TV is giving up.

Recommended for people who like European Thrillers.

I watched this the other day. I guessed the twist early, but didn't see how it would play out and it played out well.

I was distracted by the shooting locations. A lot of it was filmed on the central coast. I knew from the trailer that there's a shot of the Bixby Bridge (Big Sur) , but I didn't realize how much more takes place in the area. The film (nearly) begins with Pine driving down highway 1 past Garrapata Bluffs (a really great short hike about 15-20 min south of Point Lobos). Then he crosses the Bixby Bridge and continues to head south towards Rocky Point. Then he arrives in Carmel-by-the-Sea which is about 30-40 min in the opposite direction.

A couple of exterior shots from the CbtS downtown. Then Maeve from Westworld is talking to her handlers outside the Men's Warehouse in the Del Monte Shopping Center (that's where our Whole Foods is). The restaurant exterior is actually a house on Scenic drive in CbtS. I think it actually is on the market right now. A neighbor quoted something like $45million. On the beach nearby is (I'm told) one of the most expensive public restrooms in the country. Note: Carmel beach is one of the nicest beaches on the Central Coast. Usually very quiet and very clean.

Shannon thought the restaurant was the Post Ranch Inn, but I'm not sure about that. The interior was probably a set as they shot during sunset and that's so fleeting that they probably needed a lot of control around the lighting.
