After Craig’s run, I thought I’d revisit the beginning. Man, so NPC. Sexist, racist, Brit imperialism at its worst, several chink-eyed make up white actors, evil orientals.
But damn, when Sean drops his first line ‘Bond, James Bond’ it’s totally captivating. He’s so suave, so cold blooded, so smarmy, such a womanizer. ‘You’ve has your six’ is such a cool line. Then he shoots him like the icy assassin he is... twice to be sure.
Ursula Andress is still insanely hawt. So many teasing bare back and scantily clad scenes. She epitomizes the Bond girl. And then there’s the chink-eye spy who answers the door in a towel robe and stiletto heels.
Filmed in Jamaica in the calypso era predating reggae, the airport looked the same 45 years later when we went through. The patois is off, especially for Quarrel, who is a subservient slave to Commander Bond’s commands. But there’s a few street scenes that capture the vibe, and a scene at the falls.
But still, Sean rocks as Bond. Sure, Craig is the most brutal. But Sean broke the mold. I can watch the hell out of him as Bond.
